1. This presentation consists of the components that relate to the
upcoming activities that will take place in our classroom. If you

2. This presentation will educate you on the upcoming project that will be
taking place in our classroom in the next three weeks. This project is
called “Culture Shock!” and will focus on the contrasting aspects of the
lifestyle of the past, particularly the American Revolution time period,
and modern-day living. The course of this project will last for
approximately two weeks, and will be formatted after the following
questions:
Essential Question:
◦ How is the past different from the present?
Unit Questions:
◦ What was the clothing like during the American Revolution time period?
◦ How did schooling operate back then?
◦ What roles did men and women play during this time period?
Content Questions:
◦ What type of textbook did the children use in school that is not commonly found in
today’s schools?
◦ What were the hairstyles like during this time?
◦ What meal do we eat today that the people of the American Revolution did not eat?
3. The standards and objectives that will be targeted
and achieved in this particular project are the
following:
Standards:
◦ Creativity and innovation
◦ Critical thinking and problem solving
◦ Communication and collaboration
◦ Initiative and self-direction
Objectives:
◦ Compare and contrast the lifestyle of the American
Revolution time period to present-day living
◦ Collect, organize, display, interpret, and draw conclusions
from research
◦ Arrange their information into their own creative scene
4. The student will be expected to collect, organize, and display the
researched information that pertains to the contrasting aspects of the
way of living in the past and modern-day living, such as: schooling,
clothing, meals, roles, religion, etc. The student is also expected to
contribute to the group by accomplishing the job that he or she is
assigned. It is also the responsibility of the student to make sure the
their skits are designed well and meet all of the requirements which
include: creativity, at least one person representing the past and one
representing the present, five differences between the past and present,
students are fully prepared, etc.
Parents are more than welcome to come and volunteer in any needed
area during the course of the project and also are encouraged to come
and observe the final presentations.
The teacher will ensure that the requirements that are set for this project
will be met by monitoring the progress of the students, providing
checklists, holding conferences, issuing assessments, guiding the
students through collaboration errors, and being available at any time
for questions.
5. The students will gain knowledge about the way
of living that took place during the American
Revolution time period.
They will be able to distinguish between aspects
of the past versus the present.
They will learn collaboration skills, time
management, and creative thinking.
The students will know how to gather and
organize information into a presentable manner.
6. Project-based learning is an effective way to
engage the students in what is being taught
through activities.It assesses every area of a
student's knowledge on the subject and allows
them to relate better to what is being taught. It
also helps students form 21st century skills.
Project-based learning will be implemented in
the classroom through varies projects and
activities, similar to Culture Shock!, that will be
assigned throughout the school year. It will be
used to provide a fun and effective way for the
students to learn the material, as well as apply
the information.
