U A E CULTURE
INTRODUCTION
The UAE’s rich history is rooted in trade and tied to Islam, which
came to the region in AD 630.
The pearling industry thrived in 19th and early 20th centuries,
providing income and employment to the people of the Gulf. Many
inhabitants were semi-nomadic, pearling in the summer and tending
date gardens in the winter.
A common religion, Islam provided the cement that held the
society together.
The United Arab Emirates is home to a rich cultural heritage that
has been strongly influenced by its unique environment.

heritage and vast exposure to civilizations over time.
Seafood has been the mainstay of the Emirati diet for
centuries. Due to harsh desert conditions, the
traditional food of the United Arab Emirates includes a
lot of meat, fish, and rice as the staple foods of the
Emirati cuisine. Traditional dishes include Ma'louba ,
Margooga, Harees, Machbous, Frsee'ah, Fireed,

customs of the people. Building materials are simple, but
well-adapted to local living and climatic circumstances.
The United Arab Emirates's architecture is inspired by
Islamic architecture, Arabian architecture and Persian
architecture.
Portable tents traditionally provided shelter during tribal
wanderings in the winter season. Inland more permanent
houses were built of stone guss and were roofed with palm
trees leaves.
