This document defines communication and identifies six types of barriers to effective communication: physical, language, attitudinal, systematic, psychological, and cultural. Physical barriers include distance between sender and receiver and issues like noise or information overload. Language barriers involve a lack of clarity from different languages, jargon, or abbreviations. Attitudinal barriers stem from personality conflicts or resistance to change, while systematic barriers involve unequal treatment based on factors like racism, poverty, or education disparities. Psychological barriers comprise emotions, status differences, and closed-mindedness. Cultural barriers involve misunderstandings from gestures, accents, prejudices, or cultural norms.
