Students are instructed to visit the RCDB website to view random roller coasters and discuss their findings on a classroom discussion site. The first group should start the discussion by posting about the coasters they viewed and include questions for subsequent groups. Later groups should respond to the existing discussion and also discuss the coasters they viewed after establishing search criteria as a group related to speed, height, or other elements.

Click on the random coaster display, and make
your comments using our Starfish Language
Arts Collaborize Classroom site. If you are the
first rotation, start a discussion on random
coasters and post your commentary. You may
want to include a few questions for the following
rotations to answer. If you are after the first
rotation, respond to the discussion already
started. Be sure to check out their random
coasters as well as the ones you found.
Decide as a group, what kind of coaster you
want to find out more information. You could
consider speed, height, twists and turns.
Explore the site and determine your criteria.
Once you land on your search criteria, use the
quick search option on the site. Start a
discussion based on your criteria. Include your
findings, what you noticed, what you liked, what
surprised you, etc… Post your discussion to our
class site.
