3. Impact of Climate Change on Liberia’s Development Sectors.
Threats and Opportunities presented by Climate Change.
 Indeed Climate Change can have impact on Liberia’s development sectors
or generally Climate change and development are closely intertwined. Poor
people in developing countries Like Liberia will feel the impacts first and
worst (and already are) because of vulnerable geography and lesser ability
to cope with damage from severe weather, rising sea levels, heat waves,
flooding, change in rainfall patterns, reduction in agricultural yields, etc.
 Our WATER RESOURCES face a host of serious threats, all of which are
caused primarily by human activity. They include sedimentation,
pollution, climate change, deforestation, landscape changes, and urban
growth. In the agricultural sector Climate change can disrupt food
availability, reduce access to food, and affect food quality. For example,
projected increases in temperatures, changes in precipitation patterns,
changes in extreme weather events, and reductions in water availability
may all result in reduced agricultural productivity.

4. Impact of Climate Change on Liberia’s Development Sectors.
Threats and Opportunities presented by Climate Change.
 Fisheries and aquaculture are threatened by changes in temperature. For
example, integrating aquaculture and agriculture, which can help the
farmer’s production sector. Today, there is a potential range for a given
species. The agricultural sector for example can resilient to Climate by
integrating Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation methodologies and
processes. In the Fisheries enhancing resilience to Climate Change can be
enhanced by introducing incentive schemes to the sector as well as for
small scale fisheries, mobility can be beneficial for accessing new areas of
aqua culture interventions. Additionally, through increasing fishing fleets
and rebuilding fish stocks which will increase economic returns.

5. What should Liberia do to
contribute to the fight against
climate change?
 Increased Public Awareness, Education, and Research on Climate
Change;
 Reinforce laws and Policies that speak to interventions on Climate
Change in Liberia;
 Increase Capacity Building on Climate Change interventions;
 Ratify and domestic nationally, and locally ALL International
Environmental instruments;
 Enhance transparency frameworks that border on Climate
Change. This therefore means, that Liberia must take advance
leaps in data collection on Climate Change within priority sectors.

6. What should Liberia do to contribute to the fight
against climate change?
Currently, the main threats to Liberia’s
protected areas are agricultural encroachment and uncontrolled hunting,
fishing, logging and
mining.
 Increase International negotiations on Climate Change interventions
and encourage Climate Financing Opportunities;
 Enhance transparency frameworks that border on Climate Change.
This therefore means, that Liberia must take advance leaps in data
collection on Climate Change within priority sectors.

7. What should Liberia do to contribute to the fight
against climate change?
 Increase International negotiations on Climate Change interventions
and encourage Climate Financing Opportunities;
 Enhance transparency frameworks that border on Climate Change.

 Encourage Public-Private Partnership in combating issues related to
Climate Change
 Protected areas or conservation areas are locations which receive
protection because of their recognized natural, ecological or cultural
values. Protected areas are essential for biodiversity conservation,
often providing habitat and protection from hunting for threatened
and endangered species.

8. Environmental Awareness is an essential element of the global
response to climate change. It helps people understand and address
the impact of global warming, increases “climate literacy” among
young people, encourages changes in their attitudes and behaviour,
and helps them adapt to climate change related trends. What the
awareness further attempts to do is:
•Educate
•Inform
•Show Preventive ways
•Identify threats and consequences from human actions as well as
possible solutions
•Call for Actions to be taken
