According to the text, mental disorders may be caused organically or via chemical or genetic causes. In either case, if left untreated the cost is usually dire. In this case study, you will explore a mental disorder that was not properly controlled via the case of Adam Lanza.

Women are often perceived a certain way within our society. These images differ between various cultures. Women in positions of power are also stigmatized and constantly struggle in the fight for gender equality. According to Hatton (2013), " Both women and men, they maintain, are highly sexualized in popular media. At the same time, scholars have examined the sexualization of women as part of a broader cultural ‘backlash’ against the gains of second-wave feminism and women’s increasing power in society" (p. 65). This study looks at the progression of media representations of power females over time. There is a lot of pressure for women of power to behave and look a certain way.
I chose to focus on the Relational-Cultural theory for this discussion. This theory centers on the development of women while being influenced by the cultural conformities. "Included within this theory is the understanding of how relationships occur within particular cultural contexts such as the devaluation of people due to their gender, race, class, and sexual orientation. Thus, the theory accounts for how discrimination, stereotyping, unearned advantage and privilege impact people’s sense of connection and disconnection. Therefore, another central tenet is that people grow (or fail to grow) in relationships that exist within a cultural context" (Robbins, Chatterjee, & Canda, 2012, p. 125). This thepry can help influence our understanding of how culture, gender, race, class, and sexual orientation play a role in the different ways a woman experiences feminism.
In Tiffani's case, she is feeling the backlash of societal views on women. She was put in a position of prostitution at her young age. The men in the court room look at her in a negative light because of this. They don't see as a victim in her circumstances but rather a prostitute who broke the law. This is noticed by Tiffani and as a result, she finds herself feeling negative about her current situation. The next step to take with her would be to conduct a strengths-based approach to shed light on her positive attributes and actions. This will help her to feel more confident and take her upcoming challenges head on.

Exercise: Case Study of Randall
You are a clinical psychologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of psychological problems among children. A colleague has sent you information regarding Randall Ellis (see below) in hopes that you will provide a second opinion as to the correct diagnosis for Randall. Read the case study, make a diagnosis, and then answer the following questions in a report to be written to his family. Be careful to fully explain concepts such that someone outside of the area of abnormal child psychology would understand. (DO NOT assume that you are writing this paper to me.)
1.
What is the primary diagnosis for Randall (be sure to specify the major diagnosis and type if necessary)? Using the criteria in the DSM-IV-TR specifically describe why Randall’s symptoms fit this particular diagnosis. Give specific examples of the symptoms he manifests. Do not just list the symptoms of the disorder according to the DSM. Instead tell the reader (the parent) how Randall’s characteristics specifically fit the criteria listed in the DSM. It may help to use direct quotes from the case study. You must get the diagnosis EXACTLY correct. There is enough information given so that you can make the exact diagnosis. (3 points will be deducted for the wrong diagnosis, if the given diagnosis is close. 5 points will be deducted for an entirely incorrect diagnosis. The remainder of the paper will be based on the diagnosis you gave, and not the correct diagnosis such that you can still make a B even though you gave an incorrect diagnosis.) In order to help you arrive at the correct diagnosis, try doing this. First list all of the possible diagnosis that you think Randall has, then rule out each diagnosis until you are left with only one. Once you reach this one diagnosis, confirm it with specific examples from the case study. (10 points)
2.
With most diagnoses there are differential diagnoses and co-morbid conditions that you need to consider. Discuss differential diagnoses and co-morbid conditions that exist with your primary diagnosis by answering Parts 1, 2, and 3.
a.
Part 1: For your primary diagnosis that you gave in question #1, list the common differential diagnoses and co-morbid conditions.
b.
Part 2: Next, take one of the differential diagnoses listed in Part 1, and explain how you would make a differential diagnosis between your primary diagnosis and that particular differential diagnosis. Next, apply it to Randall’s case. In other words you are going to explain why Randall has the primary diagnosis that you gave him and not the common differential diagnosis. For example, if you gave Randall the primary diagnosis of schizophrenia (he doesn’t have schizophrenia), you would need to list autism as a common differential diagnosis, and then explain how you would make a differential diagnosis between schizophrenia and autism. What key characteristic do you look for to indicate that Randall has schizophrenia and not ...
Imposter Syndrome
Finding the Predictors
Introduction
What is Imposter Syndrome?
Imposter Syndrome is a phenomenon originally termed by Clance and Imes in 1978. Those who have Imposter Syndrome are, in fact, not imposters at all. Imposter Syndrome (alternatively called Imposter Phenomenon) is a common psychological phenomenon in which individuals regularly believe that they are incompetent in their given field or at a type of task, regardless of their accomplishments and qualifications (Clance & Imes, 1978). These individuals deny their own skill and ability, chalking it up as “fooling others” or “luck” that has got them to where they are today.

3
“[I do not] carry such information in my mind since it is readily available in books. ”
“…The value of a college education is not the learning of many facts but the training of the mind to think.”
4
Hypothesis
The current study is going to investigate three variables that to be possible predictors of Imposter Syndrome.
Self Concept Clarity
Vulnerable Narcissism
Upward Social Comparison
5
Predictor #1: Self-Concept Clarity
Self-Concept is defined as what an individual considers to be the most emblematic of their true nature, regardless of if the cognitive schema aligns with “actual” self of the individual (Schlegel et al., 2009). Thus, a clarity of self-concept is the ability that one has on identifying the characteristics that define them.
Schlegel et al. (2009) suggests that finding one’s “true self” contributes significantly to the overall well-being of an individual. Should a conflict arise with this identification, so shall conflict arise in the well-being of an individual.
Many young adults today have identification issues due to not fully seeing themselves as an adult or an adolescent (Arnett, 2001). This identity tension that arises within emerging adults can then continue forward into their professional lives, especially as they continue to achieve higher education (Murphy, Blustein, Bohlig, & Platt, 2010). This lack of a clear identity is suggested by the current study to foster a state in which Imposter Syndrome can grow.
6
Predictor #2: Vulnerable Narcissism
When people think of Narcissism, they tend to think of those who are Grandiose Narcissists: self-important and with feelings of superiority, as well as interpersonal exploitativeness (Raskin and Hall, 1981). Vulnerable Narcissism, by contrast, is a more sensitive form of narcissism. Those who are vulnerable narcissists are hypersensitive, defensive, and withdrawal internally (Cain et al., 2008). The vulnerable narcissist will essentially seek out attention and approval from others to boost their weak esteem.
A study by Kaufman et al. (2020) found that vulnerable narcissism is associated with feelings of Imposter Syndrome, as well as a weak sense of self. This study collectively finds that both imposter syndrome and a weaker sense of self are related to vulnerable narcissism, ...

Using the Mental Measurements Yearbook, identify three measures of the constructs you are studying for your research question
1. What is your research question?
My research question will be does an individual diagnosed with schizophrenia who develops an addiction have an increased risk of becoming a serial killer? In particularly, are there any ecological influences that transpire in drug stimulated (mind altering), schizophrenic serial killers? If as a result, what aspects are involved?
2. Write a testablehypothesis for your research question.
The testable hypothesis All serial killers that are also schizophrenic can change their social environment which would include mind altering drugs. This should align with the research question and should clearly state exactly what (and the direction) you believe will happen in your research. For example, Patients with schizophrenia who develop addictions are more likely to become serial killers.
3. What constructs is your research question investigating?
The constructs that are going to be used in my research question consist of negative surroundings such as environments with drug abuse
, and observing the mental and physical effects
of a person that may be subjected to these negative environments and how it correlates to their growth of becoming a serial killer.
4. Using the Mental Measurements Yearbook, provide the following information for three measures of the constructs:
a. What is the test? Include the name and authors.
The first test is by way of Mark Shriver and Claudia Wright and is the Personal Experience Inventory for Adults.
The next test is by Tony Cellucci and Glenn Gelman and will be Inventory of Drug- Taking Situations.
The third test will be one by Allen Hess and Janet Smith and the title is Interview intended for the Retrospective Assessment of the Onset and Course of Schizophrenia and Other Psychoses.
b. How is the test used? Include the target population, how the test is administered, and what information it provides.
· In the Personal Experience Inventory for Adults it is intended to gain material about an individual’s abuse predicaments. The test is given out to persons 19 years of age and up
.
· In Inventory of Drug-Taking Situations it is designed to measure people and summarize thorough situations in which one has consumed drugs within the year. The target population is drug users.
· In the Interview for the Retrospective Assessment of the Onset and Course of Schizophrenia and Other Psychoses it is designed to evaluate signs and communal growth in schizophrenic individuals. The target population is adults who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia

Briefly describe this person/character, including the medium (real life, television, movie, book, etc.) from which he or she comes, why you selected him or her, his or her background, and the background of the crimes he or she committed.
Aileen Wuornos was a real-life female serial killer. As a child, her father was convicted of sexually abusing children and killed himself in prison. At one point he was diagnosed as schizophrenic. Wuornus was abandoned by her mother at four years old and forced to live with her abusive grandparents. After having a baby at 14 she was kicked out of her grandparent’s home and lived on the streets as a prostitute. Wuornos was convicted of six life sentences for killing men she accused of either raping her or attempting to rape her.
Based on your reading this week, define, in your own words, forensic psychology as a specific example of applied behavioral science, and describe how forensic psychology could have been helpful in this case.
“Forensic psychology is a field of study that applies scientific psychological knowledge to legal issues pertaining to criminal offenders and the criminal justice system. Identify trends in forensic psychology that would prove helpful” (McCarthy et al, 2016, section 6.1). I would define it as the application and education of reliable scientific psychology in the criminal justice system. Forensic psychologist can evaluate human behaviors and based on scientifically reliable assessments determine the dangerousness to a person’s self or society at large. The can also look for common diagnosis to determine if a person is fit to stand trial. In the case of Wuornus, a forensic psychologist could have examined her RAP sheet to determine if she was a threat to society. She was arrested for several crimes, including armed robbery and assault. In the biosocial age, criminologist now have access to genetic and brain imaging data. I think it would have been worth assessing her for schizophrenia. She stated that the men she killed either raped her or attempted to rape her until she was executed. Paranoia is common in schizophrenics and some believed she was convinced that she was raped or about to be raped. In her mind the murders were justified.

Analyze the nature of the Flynn Effect and its various implications. What factors do you believe are driving the increase in IQ? How would you explain the fact that over much of the past century there has been a decrease in SAT scores, in light of the increase in IQ? What do you think the social implications of the Flynn Effect may be?

Evaluate the phenomenon of response sets and dissimulation. Present a situation in which a person may want to present themselves in an overly positive manner (i.e. fake good). Then examine a hypothetical situation in which someone might want to present themselves (or someone else) in an overly negative manner (i.e fake bad). Are there situations where you have witnessed either of these occurrences? What are some of the overall reasons people might intentionally misrepresent themselves?
What psychometric strategies are available for detecting this kind of misrepresentation?
3.

Assignment 1: Discussion—Television Character
Television provides us with many interesting examples of interpersonal and neurotic behaviors. In this assignment, you will delve into the life and actions of some of your favorite television characters and analyze them using Horney’s coping strategies.
Interestingly, Horney’s three coping strategies for one’s neurotic needs correlate very well with three of Adler’s different personality types:
· Horney’s moving-toward strategy—Adler’s getting or leaning type
· Horney’s moving against—Adler’s ruling or dominant type
· Horney’s moving away from—Adler’s avoiding type
Using Horney’s theory of coping with neurotic needs with three different interpersonal orientations, select a TV program of your choice containing a character that Horney would identify as exhibiting neurotic behaviors. As you watch a full episode of this show, focus on this character and tally each instance of moving-toward, moving-against, and moving-away behavior.
Research Horney’s theory using your textbook, the Internet, and the Argosy University online library resources. Based on your research, respond to the following:
· Discuss this character’s neurotic needs and trends.
· What do you think has happened in his/her life that has led to these behaviors?
· In addition to general life events, how has gender and culture influenced the character’s neurotic needs and behaviors?
· How do these interpersonal orientations impact the way this character interacts with others and develops relationships?
Write your initial response in 4–5 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
By Saturday, July 18, 2015, post your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Through Wednesday, July 22, 2015, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses.
Assignment 2: Case of Anna O
One of the very first cases that caught Freud’s attention when he was starting to develop his psychoanalytic theory was that of Anna O, a patient of fellow psychiatrist Josef Breuer.

Presentation of the Problem
Ryan is a 61 year old Caucasian male who was arrested for violating a no-contact orderwith his ex-husband and two adopted sons. Police were called when he attempted to “break in” to the family home to obtain some personal belongings. While at the home, his ex-husband returned and a physical altercation ensued in which Ryan allegedly attacked his ex-husband with a kitchen knife. No injuries were noted by police; His ex-husband, however, expressed intent to press assault charges. The circumstances surrounding the no-contact order are related to a series of incidences involving allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior with his children. Six months before, a long history of marriage conflict “came to a head” and he informed Ryan that he wished to file for divorce. Ryan’s ex-husband left the home with their two sons and filed a no-contact order against Ryan. The basis of the no-contact order included allegations that Ryan had a “secret life of sex addiction,” including frequent activity on “sex apps” and that he viewed pornography in front of their two sons. The ex-husband also alleged Ryan’s inappropriate relationship with their oldest son, 16 year old, citing that he discovered sexually-provocative language in text messages. A Child Protective Services Investigation and report was completed. Ryan adamantly denies these allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior with and in front of the children; He did however, verify he had been active on “sex apps” throughout the relationships in order to “hook up” with other men.
Psychosocial History
Ryan was born and raised in rural Mississippi. He comes from an intact family and is the youngest of four children. He referenced a narrative within the family that characterized him as the “unplanned pregnancy.” Ryan described a “good childhood” and he denied a history of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. He graduated from college and has had a successful career as an insurance broker.
When Ryan was age 9, his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She passed away four years later. This event caused tremendous emotional pain. After his mother’s death, his father began using alcohol heavily and eventually received voluntary inpatient treatment. Ryan reported a strained relationship with his father and a sense of rejection after he told his father he was homosexual. He experienced significant inner emotional conflict as an adolescent related to his sexuality. He began to seek sexual contact with others and by age 17 was having sex with men for money. He does not believe he has a sexual addiction and denied any compulsive sexual .

Horney’s moving-toward strategy—Adler’s getting or leaning type
Horney’s moving against—Adler’s ruling or dominant type
Horney’s moving away from—Adler’s avoiding type
Using Horney’s theory of coping with neurotic needs with three different interpersonal orientations, select a TV program of your choice containing a character that Horney would identify as exhibiting neurotic behaviors. As you watch a full episode of this show, focus on this character and tally each instance of moving-toward, moving-against, and moving-away behavior.
Research Horney’s theory using your textbook, the Internet, and the Argosy University online library resources. Based on your research, respond to the following:
Discuss this character’s neurotic needs and trends.
What do you think has happened in his/her life that has led to these behaviors?
In addition to general life events, how has gender and culture influenced the character’s neurotic needs and behaviors?
How do these interpersonal orientations impact the way this character interacts with others and develops relationships?
Write your initial response in 4–5 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Although Freud did not directly treat her, he did thoroughly analyze her case as he was fascinated by the fact that her hysteria was “cured” by Breuer. It is her case that he believes was the beginning of the psychoanalytic approach.
Through your analysis of this case, you will not only look deeper into Freud’s psychoanalytic theory but also see how Jung’s neo-psychoanalytic theory compares and contrasts with Freud’s theory.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
