How Do Newcomers Blend into a Group?: Study on a Social Network GameMasanori Takano
The document describes a study analyzing data from a social network game to understand how newcomers blend into groups. Key findings include:
- Newcomers tended to cooperate with existing group members without receiving prior cooperation, showing they cooperate to construct new relationships.
- Newcomers were more influenced by messaging from others compared to existing members, indicating messaging helps newcomers integrate.
- Both newcomers and existing members were more likely to cooperate with and respond to the cooperation of newcomers over existing members, demonstrating groups accept newcomers.
The analysis provides insights into how humans use reciprocal altruism to construct cooperative relationships with strangers and integrate newcomers into groups.

Darktrace's Industrial Immune System provides continuous threat monitoring for critical infrastructure organizations like oil and gas, energy, and manufacturing plants. It uses advanced machine learning and behavioral analytics to establish a baseline of normal activity on industrial control systems (ICS) networks. This allows it to detect abnormal and potentially malicious behavior in real-time, even from unknown threats, and flag them for investigation before they can cause major issues. As ICS networks increasingly connect to corporate IT networks and the internet, they become more vulnerable to cyber attacks but existing defenses like firewalls have proven inadequate, making a solution like Darktrace's important for enhanced protection.

Magnesium is an important nutrient absorbed from breast milk that is necessary for many bodily functions. It plays a role in muscle relaxation, energy production, blood sugar regulation, and building strong bones and teeth. However, most Americans do not get enough magnesium in their diets. This is especially important for breastfeeding mothers, as they need 20% more magnesium daily than average. Without sufficient magnesium supplementation, breastfeeding mothers consuming under 2,200 calories daily are unlikely to meet their magnesium needs. Supplementing with 600mg of magnesium such as magnesium chloride can help support breastfeeding mothers' magnesium levels.
The annual NEC Users' Group seminar was held in London last month, attracting over 240 attendees from around the world. Several notable speakers discussed topics such as the UK government's construction strategy, building information modeling, facilities management, and Network Rail's decision to adopt NEC contracts. The event featured workshops and concluded with the inaugural NEC awards ceremony, recognizing the best large project, small project, client, contractor, and project manager. The largest award winner was the £136 million International Criminal Court project in The Hague, Netherlands, delivered using an NEC ECC contract.
The document provides an overview of research conducted for a project focused on accelerating bicycle adoption in Budapest, Hungary. The research included secondary research on the existing Bubi bike share program and local biking culture. Unstructured observations were conducted at two locations to understand cyclist and non-cyclist behaviors. The observations helped identify two demographic groups to focus on: commuters and tourists. Structured observations of these groups yielded further insights. Interviews were then conducted with non-cyclists and experienced cyclists using a guided interview format. The interviews provided perspectives on perceptions and barriers to biking from both groups.

The John McGilvrey Maki Papers documents the life of John Maki, a Japanese American who was interned during World War II, through his unfinished autobiography, personal letters, government documents, and printed articles. The collection contains Maki's recollections of his childhood, time in internment camps from 1942-1946, and service with the Civilian Government Section in Japan after the war. It provides insights into the US government's Japanese American internment program and attempts to explain and justify the forced removal and incarceration to the Japanese American community.
This document provides a critical appraisal of Grice's Cooperative Principle. It summarizes Grice's theory, including the Cooperative Principle and conversational implicatures. It also discusses criticisms of Grice's theory, such as its assumption that cooperation is universal and its neglect of social factors that can influence communication. The document concludes that Grice's theory is flawed in being too biased toward cooperation and in failing to account for how people communicate in complex social contexts where cooperation may not be the goal.

Virtual Reality (VR) & Augmented Reality (AR): Are You Ready?SilverTech
This on-demand webinar will help your organization prepare for a very near future in which virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) will change the way we consume and interact with content.
The Different Between Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, Digiday WTF VR, ...Digiday
Virtual reality immerses users in a digital environment, replacing the real-world environment. Augmented reality overlays digital content on the real world. Mixed reality combines aspects of augmented and virtual reality by overlaying digital objects that interact with the real world. The primary differences are that virtual reality completely replaces reality while augmented and mixed reality digitally enhance the real world. Both are works in progress, with virtual reality being more developed currently and augmented/mixed reality facing greater technical challenges but holding promise to transform how people experience digital content.
Virtual reality (VR) is growing and evolving, with many marketers believing 2016 was the year VR began. However, VR headsets remain expensive, making widespread adoption difficult. Some businesses have experimented with VR marketing but outcomes have varied. VR has potential to revolutionize how people view and interact with content. It will impact businesses by enabling virtual tours, meetings, training and product development. VR applications include tourism, gaming, education and simulation. The future of VR is still developing as the technology improves and costs decrease.
eMarketer Webinar: Immersive Media—A New Frontier Powered by Virtual and Augm...eMarketer
This document discusses the emerging fields of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). It notes that VR completely immerses users in virtual worlds, while AR overlays virtual objects on the real world. Major tech companies are investing heavily in VR and AR, with over $2.5 billion invested in related startups. While estimates of the market size of VR and AR vary widely, mobile VR is expected to significantly outpace desktop VR over the next few years. Major challenges include creating complex and realistic content while controlling costs, as well as defining effective ways to leverage immersive technologies for marketing.

3. Weta Workshop Company Summary
The Weta Workshop is part of the amazing Weta Group of Companies. Located in New Zealand and founded in 1987
by Richard Taylor and Tania Rodger, Weta specializes in digital effects, animation, modeling, crowd gathering,
motion capture, compositing, and film scanning and recording. Other Weta Group Companies incorporate post
production facilities, studios that include a 24,500 square foot “Kong” soundstage, and a film equipment rental
company.
Weta has won 36 awards, including five Oscars and four BAFTAs for productions like The Lord of the Rings, The
Hobbit and King Kong.
Weta collaborates with other creative entities such as Star Dog Ltd, Pukeko Pictures, The Roxy Cinema, and Magic
Leap. I learned of the Weta Workshop through my inquiry into the Florida based company, Magic Leap, Inc. Richard
Taylor, co-founder of Weta is on the Board of Directors for Magic Leap. Star Dog and Magic Leap are collaborating to
bring Weta’s Dr. Grordbort as a digital game to the new platform that Magic Leap has created called Cinematic
Reality. To some extent this presentation will include Magic Leap because of Richard Taylor’s involvement and his
belief in the technology that Magic Leap has imagined and mastered. Following is how Richard describes the
accomplishment of Rony Abovitz, President, CEO & Founder of Magic Leap, Inc.:
4. Weta and Magic Leap
"What Rony and the Magic Leap team have created is nothing short of remarkable and will forever change the way
we interact with images and information. The wearable technology they have developed is revolutionary in its ability
to create amazingly immersive and fantastical experiences. This goal alone would be a Herculean endeavor for any
development group, but the fact that the Magic Leap team is driven by the mantra of also delivering devices that
complement human physiology is extraordinary,” said Richard Taylor, Magic Leap Board of Directorsʼ member and
Co-founder of Weta Workshop. "We are now at the threshold of giving people a dynamic image interface that
harmonizes with their senses in a completely natural way. As a storyteller and as a person that loves creating and
sharing imaginative worlds, it's a very exciting time. The Magic Leap team has created something truly game
changing. It is like a rocket ship for the mind."
So, let’s look at four articles about these two innovative companies and the cutting edge technology that they are
bringing to the world of cinema to determine the credibility of the journalism.

I believe that Takahiro Tsujimoto authored an accurate account
of New Zealand’s Movie Industry and the resulting boost to tourism

Considering that Japan and New Zealand have a close relationship
I was concerned about the validity of the story but, in fact I found
the reporting to be a sincere attempt to support New Zealand’s

Aside from The Guardian’s stellar reputation there are other
reasons that I give this article by Stuart Dredge a credibility
rating of 100. There are no journalistic assumptions in this story.
Instead, every point is derived from its own origin or a credible source
that I was able to verify. There is one analysis that the author seems
to make on his own: “However, there’s an important distinction:
Magic Leap appears to be working on augmented reality (AR) -
overlaying characters and data on the real world - rather than the
entirely - virtual world provided by the Oculus Rift headset.”
This makes sense because Magic Leap’s strategic and creative
partner, Weta is a physical effects workshop.

10. Magic Leap Collaborating with Weta Workshop on FPS for The Device

Authority and Credibility: Will Mason, Editor in Chief, UpLoadVR.
Currency and Continuity: Published December 18, 2014 without apparent revision. It is difficult to determine if this
website has a solid standing and history of accessibility. It is a high tech VR site with many layers of interactivity
and no historical footprint. Though, I admit UpLoadVR is engaging with intriguing articles and graphics.
Content and Bias: The focus of the article is Magic Leap’s connection to Weta Workshop and Gamasutra. The quest
to recruit the world’s best level designers to aid in developing Weta’s Dr. Grordbort’s replica ray guns for a “robot-
disintegrating science-fiction experience”. “Cinematic Reality” is intended to change the game.
Citations and Links: The active links connect to Gamasutra for employment opportunities, Weta Workshop and the
replica ray guns and Dr. Grordbort, and the South Florida Business Journal where we find an article on co-founder
Rony Abovitz and his involvement in the sale of Mako Surgical for $1.65B.
Navigation and Copyright: The Copyright date is 2015 by Virtual Reality and Oculus News and Events. There is not a
clear connection to alternate sources and navigation is somewhat complex.

UpLoadVR is “dedicated to accelerating the success of the virtual reality industry through inspiring community
experiences and dissemination of knowledge”. Founded in 2014 and privately held, UpLoadVR’s vision is connection,
experience and inspiration. Believing that Virtual Reality is going to “reinvent the way we learn, interact, and
understand the world around us, the mission is to “spread the
magic of VR”. As Co-Founder and Editor in Chief, Will Mason has
the responsibility of delivering on these aspirations. It’s not
credibility in the usual sense but dedication based on passion for
the future. I found this article to be not only credible, but the
most thorough of the four that I evaluated. The link to the South
Florida Business Journal’s interview with Magic Leap’s CEO, Rony
Abovitz was particularly insightful, and Mason acknowledged the
important relationship with Weta Workshop. I was able to verify
information presented by the author through other sources. AP 811421772720

Authority and Credibility: The author is Aaron Smith@AaronSmithCNN of CNNMoney, New York.
Currency and Continuity: Published March 20, 2015:1:19 PM ET, without apparent revisions. CNNMoney is a
subsidiary of Cable News Network, Inc., a subsidiary of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a subsidiary of Time
Warner, Inc. Respected in the industry and known for many broadcasting and journalism awards including Alfred I.
duPont - Columbia University, George Foster Peabody, and news and documentary Emmy Awards, Time Warner, Inc.
is also listed as one of Fortune Magazine’s 2015 Most Admired Companies.
Content and Bias: The focus of the article is the display of Magic Leap’s “techno prowess” and an effort to
understand “cinematic reality”. There is nothing new here as the author repeats the news of the massive funding in
2014 and efforts to build its workforce with 100 current listings that include computer and software engineering, “3-
D people tracking”, avatars, and video game design. There is no mention of Weta Workshop, an integral partner in
Magic Leaps’ development.
Citation and Links: There are links to the video clip that Magic Leap recently released, to GOOGLTECH30 regarding
the $542M funding of which Google was the primary investor, and to “wizards wanted”, the company’s 100 job
listings.

Aaron Smith authors an article on Magic Leap that is credible
in that the few facts that he discusses can be verified, and by
association with CNN and Time Warner. However, he fails to
deliver any substantive material and the information that he
does offer is somewhat random. At times, his tone is skeptical
and he does not acknowledge the essential partnership with
Weta Workshop. I have to wonder how much he understands
his material, and whether he conducted adequate research, or
had interest in the subject matter. For these reasons, I would
have to doubt his credibility on this work.
