Several leading creatives are involved in the advertising campaign.
I don’t feel much wiser after looking for a useful
definition for the word “Creativity.” We hear and
see the word creativity. Usually it seems that
people think creativity is a good thing and
something to be encouraged. The, .gov.uk
education system applies the .gov.uk version of
creative thinking to every part of the traditional way
of dividing up school days into subjects.
Truncated list of creative industries lifted from
Wikipedia; advertising, architecture, art, crafts,
design, fashion, film, music, performing arts,
publishing, R&D, software, toys and games, TV and
radio, and video games.

The first prehistoric creature to decide to curl up a
leaf to use as a drinking vessel in preference to any
other method was a designer and possibly a
monkey. The earliest citation for “teacup” in the
OED is from a play by William Congreve that
premiered in 1700. Teacups, words and premiers
are certainly human products of creative thinking for
the market place. I remember being told at college
by our course leader, Keith Clarke. “You are not
here to learn you are here to get your
qualification, you begin learning when you start
designing for clients.”
Designing is a way of thinking. A useful tool for
designers is the ability to make nice quick little
sketches as communication aids. Sketching is not
shorthand for designers, sketching adds to the
words that a designer might use. A designer might
not need any words or sketches s/he might
demonstrate an idea. “Design” derives from 1540s
Italy, from Latin designare "mark out, devise,
choose, designate, appoint," from de- "out" de- +
signare "to mark," from signum "a mark, sign" (see
sign (n.)). Originally in English with the meaning
now attached to designate; many modern uses of
design are metaphoric extensions. I was making a
metaphorical extension with the story of the leaf.
We live in the C21. My creative development
began when I was at school. I was told that my
writing was poor so I fudged my way through life
using drawings and art and making things to try to
communicate that I wasn’t stupid. I thank Keith
Clarke for letting me onto his course when I was 27.
Expressive arts and design have been removed
from the curriculum because it can’t be taught in the
system that we currently use. People are afraid of
change because we might not know what to do.

What is Creative Development?
Creative development, in a person is opening the
mind to different perspectives that are allowed to
evolve through dialogue and practice in education
with no finished state or target or goal imagined.
“For apart from inquiry, apart from the praxis,
individuals cannot be truly human. Knowledge
emerges only through invention and re-invention,
through the restless, impatient, continuing, hopeful
inquiry human beings pursue in the world, with the
world, and with each other.”
― Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed
Perhaps we could learn a lot from the young people
who tend to get pushed around on the single basis
that their age seems to make them low status. You
could make a long list of great thinkers and artists
and quantum physicists, who have been telling us
for generations that children possess enviable
creative genius. Perhaps it is time that we started
to try to understand what they were on about.
Perhaps we should observe young children learning
more. Perhaps we should see how children raise
their creative game to match what they wish to do.
Perhaps we should bear in mind that that four year
old who, is learning how to handle a paintbrush as
you watch was a very effective communicator
unable to utter a word not very long ago.
“The teacher is of course an artist, but being an
artist does not mean that he or she can make the
profile, can shape the students. What the educator
does in teaching is to make it possible for the
students to become themselves.”
― Paulo Freire, We Make the Road by Walking:
Conversations on Education and Social Change
Creative development, in a task is a special period
of time where, management barriers, agendas and
rules, are put to one side by managers. Current
management theory says that the creative process
is stymied by regulation. So, some managers have
made a rule to free-up their “creative’s creativity”
every now and then.
Why is Creative Development
Important to Children’s Learning?
Designing is a creative process. Design is as much
about understanding what exists as it is about
imagining what doesn’t exist. We need to
understand how we are still living in a Victorian
system that was formed because of the Industrial
Revolution. Eventually the first world will pass
completely through the “industrial” into the “post
industrial”. Sending the next generation first. It
might be a good idea to equip the next generation
with best abilities possible. The problem with that
of course is that at some point during the
fundamental shift the old ways will come up face to
face with the new and they might not agree. The
new ways will need brilliant negotiators. There
might be impasse or much worse. Creative thinking
steps up to the mark when it is allowed to when we
are stuck. We might have to use marketing skills in
new ways. For example, selling windmills and tidal
power farms with a bit more urgency. Hope says it
can be done.
Creative Development in the World
Creative development from this perspective may
influence our ability to think and make decisions
appropriate to our environment and surroundings
both indoors and out. How to climb that tree, build
that den, find a safe place to play. To be able to
enjoy wonders surrounding us every day. To
understand respect for our environment and what
the shared environment means to other people and
creatures living in it, be that in the wild or the built
environment. Understanding creation.
Creative Development and
Physical Development
Creative playmakers in sport or dance or
performing, turn ordinary things into
art forms. Daring to do and balance risk.
Creative Development and Communication
Development
Young children might be the masters of this art
able to teach us all if we could just learn how to
think a bit faster. Starting with the knowledge
that to a young child everything is an
experiment in a new world we might find more
respect for them.
Creative Development in
Literacy might make literacy
without creative
development obsolete with
any luck. How about making
up your own stories?
Creative Development in Math’s
The eternal problem young
children enjoy learning to
count then they get to the times
tables in juniors and fall out
with it all, Perhaps there isn’t
enough creative development in
math’s?
