10. Creative Writing Poem #4 Step One: Randomly choose 15words from a dictionary. Just flip through the pages, close your eyes, and put your finger down on the page. Copy down the word that is closest to your finger. If your finger lands on a word that you don't know, you can choose the word just above or just below it. For the purposes of this assignment, count paired words as a single entry (for instance, "melting pot" is listed as a single entry).Step Two: Shape your list of dictionary entries into a poem, using at least ten of the entries (you can, of course, use them all if you want). You can add articles, helping and to be verbs, coordinating conjunctions, and prepositions.

12. Creative Writing Poem #6 Create a poem inspired by a line in a Charles Bukowski poem: “some suicides are never recorded”

13. Creative Writing Poem #7 Think of a view from a window you know well. Respond on paper after each question. Each of these responses will form one line of their poem. What do you see straight ahead? What is on the left ? What do you see to the right? Do you notice anything different outside? Use the words “sometimes” or “always” in describing your view. Include a detail that suggests time of day or time of year. 7 & 8 Look for two more details, one of them so far in the distance you can hardly see it... or maybe can’t see it at all...

14. Creative Writing Poem #8 List ten items that you would buy at an auction, or tag sale. Write a poem including those items. You may chose to title your poem, "Things Found At An Auction".

15. Creative Writing Poem #9 Write a poem using, "how to...". For example, "how to write a poem", "how to break my heart"," how to distinguish a flower from a frog".

16. Creative Writing Poem #10 Write three shaped-verse poems. Shaped-verse poems are a form of "pattern poetry", where the letters, words, and lines of the poem are arranged to form a picture/outline of the subject of the poem. An example is a poem in the shape of a Christmas tree discussing your thoughts about Christmas itself, family traditions, and so on.
