Adding High Performance Search to your Grails AppAdam Creeger
These are slides from my presentation to the Grails Cafe Centro meetup in San Francisco on Aug 16th 2011.
Most of the session was practical, so the slides are brief and are mostly useful for the links they contain.
Alexandr Marchenko "Kubernetes - easy peasy"Fwdays
So here we have our brand new app, but how about its deployment, autoscale, high availability and so on?
We're gonna take a journey from source code posted to GitHub to deployment in Google Cloud Platform which will be capable to take bazillion of requests.
Will make our own docker image and see how it is looks like in practice.
Will start our first kubernetes cluster and deploy our app.
Will have a sneak peak into autoscaler and high availability
Search facilities have become such a basic commodity in applications that it's almost taken for granted.
But bundled with a framework such as Grails, you the developer are faced with some limitations and extra concerns: how well is this library developed and backed? does the library fit the framework's paradigm and how good is the support for the tool within the framework itself?
This talk will provided an overview and comparison in search for a piece of the holy grail - a good search facility.

Deployment with Elastic Beanstalk at Edinburgh Startup EventAmazon Web Services
In this talk from the AWS Startup Event in Edinburgh, AWS Technical Evangelist Ian Massingham introduces deployment of Docker container with AWS Elastic Beanstalk.
This was my talk at Detroit Startup Week 2017 about the WordPress REST API. The goal was to build a foundation for REST APIs then how to use WordPress' core REST API to build upon.
Herding Microservices – the Atlassian WayAtlassian
You know the story – your team needs to build a new integration for a new system and you decide, "A microservice would be perfect for this!" Before you know it, there are dozens of integrations and dozens of microservices spinning out of control.
In this session, Matej Konecny will walk you through his team's process for herding dozens of microservices at Atlassian. He'll share the processes they've put in place to manage and scale incident responses, make the service dependencies discoverable, and architect sustainable systems as they keep on building more integrations.
These slides contain a basic introduction to WordPress, and how to get up and running with WordPress.
You will get to know that what development options do you have as a non-programmer or as a programmer.
And then you will learn how the plugins work and how you can get your very basic plugin working.

Deploying and Managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux in Amazon Web ServicesDLT Solutions
The Federal Cloud First policy mandates that agencies take full advantage of cloud computing benefits to maximize capacity utilization, improve IT flexibility and responsiveness, and minimize cost. But how can you safely and reliably begin to deploy and manage your Red Hat instances at cloud scale? With IT automation, you can more easily deploy and manage your Red Hat instances in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud.
In this webinar, we’ll demonstrate how to:
Automate the creation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux-based AWS instances
Apply a security baseline to the instances
Deploy and manage an application
Regardless of where you are in the cloud adoption process, leveraging IT automation can help smooth the transition to the cloud. Join the webinar to learn how.

The end of server management : hosting have to become a commodity
Industrial revolution of intellectual production : from computer to team agility, how to work more efficient ?
There is a lot of trending words about hosting and clouds theres years, but just a few focused on the essential : how to make the process and the production of hosting really neat and without problems. We have to focus about industrialization like we did about electricity a century ago : produce stable standard with a high quality of service and availability, and develop the ecosystem of consumer. So, how the PaaS, the cloud and good process will end the server management ?

Modular front-end applications that can grow and evolve over time. Many front-end JS toolkits are optimized for building the first version of the app quickly. But for an app that powers a business, you have to think past initial launch. Your app will likely outlive the attention span of those who first wrote it. So, how do we pick tools and architectures that can be modified, maintained, and upgraded over time by a team of people?

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Why You Should Replace Windows 11 with Nitrux Linux 3.5.0 for enhanced perfor...SOFTTECHHUB
The choice of an operating system plays a pivotal role in shaping our computing experience. For decades, Microsoft's Windows has dominated the market, offering a familiar and widely adopted platform for personal and professional use. However, as technological advancements continue to push the boundaries of innovation, alternative operating systems have emerged, challenging the status quo and offering users a fresh perspective on computing.
One such alternative that has garnered significant attention and acclaim is Nitrux Linux 3.5.0, a sleek, powerful, and user-friendly Linux distribution that promises to redefine the way we interact with our devices. With its focus on performance, security, and customization, Nitrux Linux presents a compelling case for those seeking to break free from the constraints of proprietary software and embrace the freedom and flexibility of open-source computing.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
