4. Until now (and to get into the subject)
 Everyone recognizes the authorship of any classic publication (article,
monograph, thesis...)
• The researcher, however, had to use/generate data to reach the final output.
 So... What do we mean by data?
• RESEARCH DATA: ‘any information that has been collected, observed,
generated or created to validate original research findings’
• OPEN RESEARCH DATA: ‘are online, free of cost, accessible data that
can be used, reused and distributed provided that the data source is
attributed’
• DATASET: ‘collection of files (data, code, documentation) and
associated descriptive metadata that have a reason to be grouped
together’

5. But not only open research data…
 In 2014, a basic set of principles was published to optimize the reuse of research data, called the
FAIR Data Principles:

6. Who drives it?
 At European level: Horizon Europe (and their predecessors)
 At state level: Ley de la Ciencia
 At Catalan level: Llei de la ciència / Estratègia catalana

7. And what is requested?
 It is generally requested:
• To make a data management plan (DMP) and update it periodically.
– In Horizon Europe: mandatory 6 months after the project awarding + various updates until completion
• To deposit the data as open as possible in a trusted repository (following the principle: “as open as
possible, as closed as necessary”)
– Documentation must be included in order to reuse/validate that data

8. What is a Data Management Plan (DMP)?
 Formal document that describes what you will do with your data during and after a research
project.
 It must contain information about:
• What data will be obtained to develop the research?
• How will they be collected and processed?
• What standards and methodology will be followed?
• Who will be able to access the data and how will it be disseminated?
• How will they be preserved when the research is completed?
 Despite having similar contents, you must follow the requirements (or templates) of each
funding agency.
 A DMP is a living document! The research process requires the initial idea to be modified and,
therefore, for every change in the research, the DMP will need to be reviewed and adapted.

 To personalize your profile.
 To create DMPs
 To have a record of all the plans created in the “My dashboard” section

 Link the ORCID to your profile
 Change the password
 Select preferences in notifications

 Go to Create Plans and add
this information:
• Title of the DMP
• Link it to the ICIQ
• Select the funding agency
and the type of DMP you
want to do:
– European Commission:
– Horizon Europe
– Horizon 2020
– European Research Council

– Agencia Estatal de Investigación:
– Plan Estatal
– Software Management Plan
– Doctorand

14. And which sections will we find for each DMP?
 In Project Details you must fill in
everything that refers to the project
• Grant Number
• Project abstract
• ID
• ...
In the Attention box, you can select
the guidance that will help you
writing the DMP

 In Plan overview there is information about the template that is going to be used

 In Write Plans you will find:
• A form that replicates the agency’s
requirements
• A series of guides and aids to help you know
what to include in each field of the form
• Some real examples of DMPs presented to
the funding agencies
• The possibility to add comments for DMP
collaborators

 In Share you can:
• Define the level of visibility of your DMP
(private, organizational or public)
• Manage collaborators in the DMP (co-owners,
editors or readers)
• Send the DMP for review to the research
support staff
