Editor's Notes

  • #2 Visuals will rule the future of content. Whether it’s images, video, live video, augmented reality, virtual reality, or another combination, marketers everywhere are already diving in to figure out how these technologies can help them create more genuine connections between their audiences and their brands.
  • #4 Pictures on social media are the quickest way to engage with your audience – so much more powerful than words. Don’t be afraid to be up front and centre in your photos – your customers want to know who is the person behind the business.
  • #5 Stock photography is a term that refers to photographs that can be licensed for public or commercial use, which are usually found on professional stock photography websites. These are photographs that can be used for any purpose in marketing, advertising, or design, as long as it is not illegal or harmful. In addition to hiring a photographer to take unique photos, many advertising companies, graphic designers, web designers, and other professionals frequently take advantage of stock photography to fill their design needs.
  • #9 Who works with you? Put some faces to the names – it helps to personalise your business
  • #10 Relevant meetings, talks etc. that show that you are regularly updating your subject knowledge etc.
  • #11 What are your clients interested in? If you make sustainable clothing your customers might want to see images of the production of the fabric, the people manufacturing the clothes, the difference it’s making to their lives. If you have a car repair business you might post photos rare cars that you have worked on, photo guides to packing the car for holidays etc.
  • #12 Changes to your workspace (especially if clients visit you there) e.g might be new furniture in reception area, new fleet of cars, new computers etc. Images that show you are growing and looking to the future.
  • #13 Get a large piece of paper and write down all the topics associated with your business – what would one of your customers want to read about? Narrow it down to the main topics with sub-headings e.g. a photographer might have: Portraits – babies – business profiles – family groups etc. Pin this up on your wall near your computer and save it on to your dropbox file as a reminder of those things you could write about.
  • #14 Get a large piece of paper and write down all the topics associated with your business – what would one of your customers want to read about? Narrow it down to the main topics with sub-headings e.g. a photographer might have: Portraits – babies – business profiles – family groups etc. Pin this up on your wall near your computer and save it on to your dropbox file as a reminder of those things you could write about.
  • #15 Plans for the future ‘Watch this space’ – create anticipation for events, products etc. New products/services Holidays – follow the calendar Post about products/ services that follow the seasons e.g. sun products in Summer. If you have a car repair business –importance of new tyres during wet weather etc. Wishing people Happy Easter, Mother’s Day, Halloween etc Lists - Post lists as quick guides to information of interest to your customers. e.g: Top 10 suggestions for baby gifts 5 things to do to keep your car performing well 3 things to remember when buying a house Testimonials and feedback from clients/customers Share endorsements, photo of gifts from happy clients, the positive results of your work.
  • #22 Sharing useful content (articles, posts etc.) helps to promote the fact that you are the person they need to work with. Make sure you credit the origin of the content Create a community of like-minded businesses by sharing other businesses posts – they may return the favour! In future you may even wish to co-promote an event etc. Congratulate others on their achievements.
  • #23 Steer clear of poaching competitors content!
