PRESENTATION OF DATA

LIMITATION

    • The Topic is a voluminous one for which the time allotted was insufficient.

    • Getting primary data from the company is very difficult. For being a private
company the employees of the company are reluctant to give any information,
which is specific to that company.

    • The most significant weakness of this study can be attributed to the chosen case
study research methodology. These include the lack of generalization, perceived
lack of rigor, subjectivity, and voluminous documents. This study is an
exploratory case study with a voluminous sample size. Therefore, the findings
cannot be generalized beyond the context of this study.

    • It is too tough to measure the Investment on various equipments of the
        companies.

TATA GROWTH SHOP 2010
Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata was born into a well-to-do family of Bombay Parsees in
1839. Tata Steel was established by Indian Parsi businessman Jamsetji Nusserwanji
Tata in 1907 (he died in 1904, before the project was completed). Tata Steel
introduced an 8-hour work day as early as in 1912 when only a 12-hour work day was
the legal requirement in Britain. It introduced leave-with-pay in 1920, a practice that
became legally binding upon employers in India only in 1945. Similarly, Tata Steel
started a Provident Fund for its employees as early as in 1920, which became a law for
all employers under the Provident Fund Act only in 1952. Tata Steel's furnaces have
never been disrupted on account of a labor strike and this is an enviable record.

Capacity Expansion
Tata Steel has set an ambitious target to achieve a capacity of 100 million tonne by
2015. Former Managing Director B. Muthuraman stated that of the 100 million tonne,

Tata Steel has lined up a series of greenfield projects in India and outside which
includes-

    1. 6 million tonne plant in Orissa (India)
    2. 12 million tonne in Jharkhand (India)
    3. 5 million tonne in Chhattisgarh (India)
    4. 3-million tonne plant in Iran
    5. 2.4-million tonne plant in Bangladesh
    6. 5 million tonne capacity expansion at Jamshedpur (India)
    7. 4.5 million tonne plant in Vietnam (feasibility studies underway)

                                imagination and

Prescience, he laid the foundations of Indian industry, contributed to
Its consolidation, and became a key figure in India’s industrial
renaissance. Born on 3rd march 1839 into a family descended from
Parsi priests in Navsari, a centre for age old Parsi culture, he was
educated at Elphinstone College , Bombay Initiated early into the
Techniques of trade by his father, he travelled wide, gained a scientific
outlook, and set up at first, textile business in India, introducing new machinery that vastly
improved the production of cotton yarn in the country. He however realized that India’s real
freedom depended upon his self-sufficiency in scientific knowledge, power and steel, and thus
devoted the major part of his life, and his fortune to three great enterprise – the Indian Institute of
Science at Bangluru, the Hydro-electric schemes, and Iron & Steel Works at Jamshedpur.

                     J N Tata had exhorted to his sons to pursue and develop his life’s work;
His elder son, Dorab Tata carried out the bequest with scrupulous zeal,
and distinction. Thus, even though it was Jamsetji Tata who had
envisioned the mammoth projects, it was in fact Doarb Tata who actually
brought the venture to existence and fruition. He was the first Chairman of
the gig an Tata enterprise. He had a deep interest in people. The great
labor strike in 1920 in Jamshedpur ended in a day due to his intervention.
It demonstrated India could have no better employer of labor that Sir
                     Dorab.

JRD Tata has been one of the greatest builders and personalities of
modern India in the twentieth century. He assumed Chairmanship of Tata
Sons Limited at the young age of 34, but his charismatic, disciplined and
forward-looking leadership over the next 50 years and more, led the Tata
Group to new heights of achievement, expansion and modernization. Under
his stewardship, the number of Tata venture grew from 13 to around 80,

E.O.T-CRANES are divided into two major types. They are:
1. Single Girder Cranes
2. Double girder cranes

Ladle Handling Crane

As it is usually the only crane in a steel mill that can perform ladle handling, the ladle crane’s
reliability is of paramount importance.

An open-topped cylindrical container made of heavy steel plates and lined with refractory, the
ladle is used for holding and transporting liquid steel. Here all secondary metallurgical work
takes place, including deslagging and reslagging, electrical heating, chemical heating or
cooling with scrap, powder injection or wire feeding, and stirring with gas or with ...

Slab Handling Crane

     • These heavy-duty cranes feed the rolling mill and are therefore critical to its operation.
     • Sometimes they incorporate a rotating trolley in order to position the product
correctly in relation to the conveyor.
     • Slab handling cranes are able to handle radiant heat from the product.

These are high production cranes with high speed requirements. Load control is used for
smooth, accurate positioning of the load and assists the operator in maximizing throughput

LIMITATION • The Topic is a voluminous one for which the time allotted was insufficient. • Getting primary data from the company is very difficult. For being a private company the employees of the company are reluctant to give any information, which is specific to that company. • The most significant weakness of this study can be attributed to the chosen case study research methodology. These include the lack of generalization, perceived lack of rigor, subjectivity, and voluminous documents. This study is an exploratory case study with a voluminous sample size. Therefore, the findings cannot be generalized beyond the context of this study. • It is too tough to measure the Investment on various equipments of the companies.
