Warehouse Control System vs. Warehouse Management SystemAL Systems
http://www.alsystems.com/warehouse-control-system
There are several misconceptions about the functionalities and capabilities of a WAREHOUSE CONTROL SYSTEM as compared to a WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. A WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM is a planning system designed to manage movement and storage of materials within a warehouse and distribution center. Despite being an extremely valuable resource in warehousing and distribution operations, customizing a WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM to control warehouse automation and material handling subsystems can not only be very expensive and time consuming, but also jeopardize future WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM upgrades. To address this issue, many companies are now turning to the WAREHOUSE CONTROL SYSTEM.
A WAREHOUSE CONTROL SYSTEM, on the other hand, is an execution system designed to direct real-time activities within a warehouse and distribution center. A WAREHOUSE CONTROL SYSTEM provides a single point of connection between a WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, ERP and/or host system and the “shop floor”, ensuring all floor activities are running smoothly, maximizing the efficiency of operators as well as warehouse automation and material handling subsystems such as Pick to Light, Voice Picking, RF, Conveyor Systems, Sortation Systems, Automated Labeling Equipment etc.
The WAREHOUSE CONTROL SYSTEM landscape is changing rapidly, whereby the new breed of WAREHOUSE CONTROL SYSTEMS is equipped to handle most of the WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM functions and more, but at a much lower cost.
A warehouse management system (WMS) is a key part of the Supply Chain. Warehouse management systems often utilize automatic identification and data capture technology, such as barcode Scanners, mobile computers, wireless LANs and potentially radio frequency identification (RFID) to efficiently monitor the flow of products. Once data has been collected, there is either a batch synchronization with, or a real-time wireless transmission to a central database. The database can then provide useful reports about the status of goods in the warehouse.

For companies experiencing growth, a warehouse management system is imperative. A warehouse management system (WMS) will be of great value to growing businesses with on-hand inventory. By monitoring work processes at multiple levels, boosting productivity, and maximizing asset utilization, the WMS can enhance operational efficiency for both labor and physical space. Automating WMSs improves accuracy, throughput, and speed when it comes to inventory control. In addition to the obvious benefits of warehouse management systems, we have highlighted some of the secondary benefits below.
How Voice, Scanning and Automation Improve Distribution/Fulfillment OperationsJohn Schriefer
Regardless of your current warehouse management system, new market and operational changes require new approaches to improve fulfillment center operations. This presentation uses two examples to illustrate how mobile applications and warehouse automation solve shop-floor execution challenges without changing back-end systems.
Labor management has proven to be a successful supply chain tool for managing costs related to labor. This is especially critical as labor is reportedly the largest cost center in any SCM facility. This also means that it provides the most significant cost savings opportunity. Labor management systems constantly evaluate, measure and adapt day to day labor tasks with the main goal of achieving the highest level of productivity and cost savings. Its’ functional counterpart, slotting, helps to identify SKU placement throughout your warehouse facility to reduce travel times, increase picking accuracy and increase asset utilization – all of which are key factors in optimizing workforce productivity. Slotting alone has saved companies upwards of $500,000 annually and can prove even more useful when used in conjunction with LMS software. Selecting a labor management system that is built into warehouse management software can make optimization efforts even more fruitful as it allows your team to pull data from one system to anther with little to no manual data entry (where many inventory errors occur) and test slotting plans while receiving measurable results. This can help to improve the success of your labor optimization efforts.
Many SCM decision makers are hesitant to implement labor management software suites as there are common misconceptions or myths about their success and usefulness. Some of these myths include: full LMS functionality is available if I have a WMS, employee morale will be negatively impacted, LMS implementation requires significant IT resources and more. If your team can get past these concerns, find a functionally robust labor management system and implement it in a way that will help you meet your specific goals it is well worth the investment. Five Ways a Warehouse Management System Helps When Your Warehouse is Choc FullIndigo Software
Holding excess inventory in your warehouse can be a costly strategy and now, because of future economic uncertainty, the practice is becoming widespread. Companies are clearly balancing the additional costs of inventory management against the potential implications of being short of raw materials and deciding the former scenario is a preferable place to be. It’s no longer a case of ‘just in time’ but a question of ‘just in case’. If you have committed to holding additional stocks in case of future shortfalls over the coming months, ensure you are following these best practices to manage excess inventory as efficiently as possible to minimise costs or wastage. This presentation explains how a warehouse management system (WMS) can help improve efficiency when warehouse space is tight and you are holding excess inventory for unforeseen events.

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

Why React Native as a Strategic Advantage for Startup Innovation.pdfayushiqss
Do you know that React Native is being increasingly adopted by startups as well as big companies in the mobile app development industry? Big names like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest have already integrated this robust open-source framework.
In fact, according to a report by Statista, the number of React Native developers has been steadily increasing over the years, reaching an estimated 1.9 million by the end of 2024. This means that the demand for this framework in the job market has been growing making it a valuable skill.
But what makes React Native so popular for mobile application development? It offers excellent cross-platform capabilities among other benefits. This way, with React Native, developers can write code once and run it on both iOS and Android devices thus saving time and resources leading to shorter development cycles hence faster time-to-market for your app.
Let’s take the example of a startup, which wanted to release their app on both iOS and Android at once. Through the use of React Native they managed to create an app and bring it into the market within a very short period. This helped them gain an advantage over their competitors because they had access to a large user base who were able to generate revenue quickly for them.
