Test your students global knowledge with flags, names of countries and nationalities. Play it as a relay care game - divide students into two teams. One player of each team runs for the chance to say the correct answer. Students of all ages will like the fun and learn with it. Short activity for a warm up or wrap up.

Low-Performing Students- Why They Fall Behind and How to Help Them Succeed EduSkills OECD
by Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills, OECD Low-performing Students: Why they Fall Behind and How to Help them Succeed examines low performance at school by looking at low performers’ family background, education career and attitudes towards school. The report also analyses the school practices and educational policies that are more strongly associated with poor student performance. Most important, the evidence provided in the report reveals what policy makers, educators, parents and students themselves can do to tackle low performance and succeed in school.
Trends Shaping Education 2016 provides an overview of key economic, social, demographic and technological trends and raises pertinent questions about their potential impact on education. This compilation makes use of a variety of robust international sources of data, including the OECD, the World Bank and the United Nations.
Education at a Glance is the authoritative source for information on the state of education around the world. It provides key information on the output of educational institutions; the impact of learning across countries; the financial and human resources invested in education; access, participation and progression in education; and the learning environment and organisation of schools.
The 2016 edition introduces a new indicator on the completion rate of tertiary students and another one on school leaders. It provides more trend data and analysis on diverse topics, such as: teachers’ salaries; graduation rates; expenditure on education; enrolment rates; young adults who are neither employed nor in education or training; class size; and teaching hours. The publication examines gender imbalance in education and the profile of students who attend, and graduate from, vocational education.
The report covers all 35 OECD countries and a number of partner countries (Argentina, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Indonesia, Lithuania, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia and South Africa).
This edition includes more than 125 figures and 145 tables. The Excel™ spreadsheets used to create them are available via the StatLinks provided throughout the publication. More data is available in the OECD Education Statistics database.
This presentation provide students with practice on the present continuous (present progressive). The pictures help visual students understand the use of the verb tense. The final slides provide formulas of sentence structure. This presentation replaces the well known flash-card activities and is good for language presentation and practice. Students may just say the sentences orally or also write them down for more practice.
Portuguese and Spanish speakers tend to confuse the use of present perfect and simple past tenses. I created this presentation back in May, 2010. Teacher, if you want to use these slides, I would suggest you changed the dates for the day of your class to make sure students understand that present perfect is actually present, although it refers to the past.

This sequence of slides may be used for vocabulary presentation or review. It contains pictures of natural places - good for the visual students. The final slide allows for freer practice.
Means of transportation and present perfect drillPriscila Medrado
This presentation features a drilling exercise. The initial slides are only a vocabulary review, plain and simple. Then, students must select the proper word to make grammatically correct sentences. The hints to start the sentences are on the color of the subject pronouns. The target vocabulary is means of transportation, and the grammar topic is the form of present perfect tense. Scaffolding - the sequence of slides leads students from highly controlled practice into freer practice.
This is a cool game for teenagers and young adults. I got the sentences with real mistakes made by several students of mine. Teacher, you can make your own presentation with your students' common mistakes.
The game: distribute a certain amount of fake money to each student (if you don't have fake money, simply determine how much each one has and keep their balance on the board). As in an auction, students must offer how much they would like to pay for the given sentence. The best offer gets the sentence and the chance to correct it. If the sentence is corrected accordingly, the player gets some bonus "cash" (20% of the amount payed, for example). Students usually bet higher for the sentences they are sure they can edit correctly.
Fun game - project the slides on a white board or smartboard and have students work in pairs or groups. The student on the board draws the path while his/her team give the directions. Directions can be, for instance, go ahead up to the dinning table, turn left after the sofa. There are many entrances/exits that provide for several rounds of practice.
EFL fluency class discussion questions - men and womenPriscila Medrado
This presentation was used on a English language fluency class. On my original PPT, the slides were timed and students had to discuss the questions before the bell rang and each slide changed.
Raise global awareness with these slides. I would like to add the reference to the author of these pictures - so in case you know who made them, please let me know.
This presentation may be used in different ways. Beginner English language learners can simply name the foods on the pictures, while more advanced students may have a discussion about the different habits in each country or write about it.
This presentation was made for Brazilian students of English as a foreign language and the pictures show very popular celebrities, cars and places. Students must make sentences comparing the people or objects in the pictures using the vocabulary provided and the target grammar topic - comparatives.
This presentation features a drilling exercise. Students must choose the words to make grammatically correct sentences. The target vocabulary is physical description, and the grammar topic is the choice between verb be and have/has got. Scaffolding - the sequence of slides leads students from highly controlled practice into freer practice.
This presentation was originally used in an EFL class for Brazilian students (that's why it starts in Portuguese - to set the model). It was used as a warm up activity for a business English class about marketing. In the end of the lesson, students had to create a catchy slogan for a certain product.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
