Guessing Game!
Question 1:
I have a magnet inside me. My body is
divided into water and land. A lot of
moving creature are living within me.
Who am I?
EARTH
Question 2:
I am huge. I am star. You can see me
every morning but you cannot
directly look at me.
Who am I?
SUN
Question 3:
I am round. I have many scars. They call
me Luna and I do not have my own
light.
Who am I?
MOON
At the end of this space adventure, you are
expected to:
Infer the pattern in the changes in the
appearance of the moon
show through a model how the relative
position of the observer of Earth, Moon and
Sun cause the apparent changes in the shape of
the moon; and
value the importance of the moon in our daily
life.
Based on the song, what is the
role of the moon to the earth?
Moon is considered as the
Earth’s natural satellite.
What made of the moon as
mentioned in the song?
It is made of rock.
In what shape/s does the
moon appear?
Sometimes it appears full
and sometimes half.
The Moon is the only natural satellite
that Earth has. A satellite is an object
that revolves around a larger object. The
moon does not produce its own light. It
only reflects the light coming from the
sun.
The appearance changes from time to
time. It because the illuminated portion
on the moon changes as it move around
the earth. This apparent change in the
appearance of the moon is known as the
Phases Of The Moon or Lunar Cycle.
But some believe that these changes are associated
with superstitious beliefs! Although most of these
beliefs are scientifically proven to affect our daily lives,
it is important to study and debug each of these local
myths and folklore about moon.
PHASES OF THE MOON
NEW MOON
When the moon is between
the sun and the earth, you
cannot see the moon.
During this phase, the moon
that is facing us is not visible
from the earth. This is because
the side of the moon that is
facing us is not being lit by the
sun.
WAXING CRESCENT
After a new moon, when the
moon seems to be growing, it
is undergoing a waxing
phase. As the moon starts to
appear in a semicircular
form, Waxing Crescent starts
to appear.
PHASES OF THE MOON
FIRST QUARTER
During this phase
half of the moon is
lighted and visible.
PHASES OF THE MOON
WAXING GIBBOUS
When the most
of the portion of
the moon is
visible in the sky,
it is known as the
Waxing Gibbous.
PHASES OF THE MOON
FULL MOON
Then, the whole
lighted side of the
moon that is
visible from Earth
is known as the
Full Moon. A full
moon appears as
an entire circle in
the sky.
PHASES OF THE MOON
PHASES OF THE MOON
WANING GIBBOUS
After full moon, the waning
phase of the moon starts. It is
when the moon appears to be
getting smaller each night.
Waning Gibbous appears after a
full moon. Most portion of the
moon is visible in the sky but,
this time, it gets smaller every
night.
PHASES OF THE MOON
THIRD QUARTER/LAST
QUARTER
When half of the moon is
lighted at the left side and
occurs after a week of the
month it is called Last
Quarter Moon.
On the third week of the
month, you again see half of
the moons lighted part.
PHASES OF THE MOON
WANING CRESCENT
Waning refers to the
shrinking of the moon’s
illumination, and Crescent
means less than half of the
moon is illuminated.
This moon signals the
beginning of a new cycle
and means that you will see
the new moon in a few
days.
GROUP ACTIVITY
Every how many days does the
Moon complete one revolution
around the Earth?
The Moon revolves around the
Earth once every 29 days or once a
month.
At what position of the Earth, Sun,
Moon do we see the full moon?
When the moon is on one side of
the earth and the Sun is on the other
or the Earth is between the Sun and
the Moon.
How many phases in all we have in a
lunar cycle?
We have 8 phases of the moon in a
lunar cycle?
The lunar cycle begins with what
phase?
The lunar cycle begins with the New
Moon phase.
How is Waxing Gibbous phase
different from Waning Gibbous
phase?
A Waxing Gibbous indicates the part
of the Moon that is lit and growing
while Waning Gibbous is the part of
the moon that is lit and shrinking.
What are the phases of the Moon in
a lunar cycle?
New Moon, Waxing Crescent,
Waxing Gibbous, First Quarter, Full
Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third
Quarter,and Waning Crescent.
Directions: Write FACT if the
statement is true and BLUFF if
the statement is false.

moon at a time.

shape.

4. The phases of the moon
depend on how much the light of
the sun can be seen at any one
time.

5. The moon revolves around the
sun, too.
-FACT
Let’s do this!
-You will need: chair – partner
Do these:
- Place the chair on the center of the room.
It will represent the sun.
- Draw a line around the chair. It will
represent the orbit.
- Let your partner stand beside you. He/She
will represent the moon.
- As you turn around and move on the
orbit, your partner will move around you.
Your partner will face towards you as he or
she moves.
Question:
•Based on the activity, what can you say as the
moon travel around the earth?
-As the moon travel around the
earth, the moon always keeps the
same face turned toward earth.
• .
