Sick industries: The reasons and remedies for it (A case study in Bangladesh)Masum Hussain
Small industrial units are the seedbed on industrial development in underdeveloped economy for its less capital involvement and more employment generation capability. But this sector cannot contribute expectedly for infection to sickness that ultimately prevents the entrepreneurial bases of economy. Sickness can be occurred in the inception period, in operation and /or in macro environment. Without the growth and development of entrepreneurship the development of country would always be unattained. It is a study through which we try to analyze the forces behind the spirit of entrepreneurship development. The study tried to explore the ambitions, compulsions, facilitations and expectations which lead them to industry, the idea generation process and motivators in that process of entrepreneurships and also the primary obstacles in entrepreneurships in Industrial estates. In this context an extensive survey is made and data have been collected from some entrepreneurs in five BSCIC industrial estate of Sylhet division in Bangladesh. From that study it is revealed that the leading ambition is making profits, compulsions are dissatisfaction in present job and unemployment and facilitating factors are technical skill and experience. The main source of idea is the entrepreneur himself and he is also the motivator in that process. Obstacle in emergence of entrepreneurship in industrial estates is revealed as the procedural hazards. Therefore it is suggested that proper counselling in presence of family members and minimizing the procedural hazards in facilitating supports should be emphasized in entrepreneurial development program. The problem of industries becoming sick, both in public and private sectors, has turned to be alarming in Bangladesh in recent years. Although the causes for closure or divestment might be many but in most of the cases continued loss played a major role. Thus the problem of industries becoming sick deserves to be treated more seriously at Government policy level as it is related to the national economy and development.

Merchants from high-risk industries face significant challenges due to their industry reputation, chargeback, and refund rates. These industries include sectors like gambling, adult entertainment, and CBD products, which often struggle to secure merchant accounts due to increased risks of chargebacks and fraud.
To overcome these difficulties, it is necessary to improve credit scores, reduce chargeback rates, and provide detailed business information to high-risk merchant account providers to enhance credibility.
Regarding security, implementing robust security measures such as secure payment gateways, two-factor authentication, and fraud detection software that utilizes machine learning systems is crucial.

Convention
Centre
Kuala Lumpur
2. We are pleased to announce that the National Institute of
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) will conduct the 22nd
Conference and Exhibition on Occupational Safety and Health
(COSH2019) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia on the 26th to the 27th of August 2019.
COSH2019 serves as an enhanced platform for OSH
professionals in Malaysia to share and update their OSH
knowledge and skills to meet the dynamic changes in the
Malaysian working environment.
Discussing current challenges and concerns relating to
safety and health is one of the primary objectives of this
conference.
As an organisation that focuses on safety and health of
employees, NIOSH has come a long way to realise its
objective of becoming the centre of excellence for
Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in Malaysia.
COSH2019 will bring together OSH practitioners from
various disciplines to share their knowledge, expertise,
skills and ideas to help create an accident-free
workplace.
In this global economy, occupational safety and health (OSH)
issues are among the key determinants to a company’s
competitiveness through productivity enhancement and efficiency.
Industries and employers must realize that four fundamental factors
justify OSH management.
They are corporate social responsibility, integrity and moral obligation,
good business sense and legal obligation. Common sense tells us that effective OSH management not only
reduces the risk to safety and health but also ensures high returns to the company in terms of productivity and
profitability. Managing OSH is not only essential for business competitiveness but also sustaining the well-being
of the workforce.
In any business enterprise, the issue of preserving and retaining their employees is most urgent. The welfare of
their human resources should be of utmost importance to employers and a pre-requisite to developing and
maintaining a competent and highly skilled workforce. Therefore, OSH education and training is of paramount
importance and employers should see it as an investment and not an expense.
