June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

1. Hi, I am Aarshia..!!! You know, my name means “divine
and my mom says that I am true to my name…
2. I was born with down Syndrome, which occurs once in
every 1000 live births….
It means I have an extra 21st chromosome … that
makes me special…very special.
3. 40% of children with down syndrome are born with congenital
heart disease…I also happened to be one of those and went
through an open heart surgery when I was very small..!!!
4. And I came out very strong…My doctor told my mom and dad that
I was very brave…!!!
5.
6. I have to go through lot of therapies like occupational, speech and special
education to be able to have a normal life like you and it takes me a little longer
but my therapists mam says that I am a very hardworking and a very good
student..!!!
7. I also have a brother “Aaryamann” he likes to teach me how to run, ride bicycle , play on
laptop and trouble mama..!!!

i
9. My Mom thinks that I will be a graduate one day like my lot of down syndrome

and hard working teachers….
10. Though my dad thinks I would grow up to be a beauty queen.. I love to put
make up on…
11. I would decide what I want to be, once I grow up… a lot of my down syndrome
friends can now have a career , are post graduates, musical geniuses and amazing
people to live with…
13. Just because I look different ..doesn’t mean my dreams and hopes are different
too…every day I work hard to beat the odds that society has placed against special kids
like me….
14. Thank you for being a part of my life… I assure you that every day that you are going to
spend with me is going to make you smile, laugh and teach wonderful new things that
you’d always appreciate.!!!
15. My face might be different
But my feelings the same
I laugh and I cry
And I take pride in my gains
I was sent here among you
To teach you to love
As god in the heavens
Looks down from above
To him I’m no different
His love knows no bounds
It’s those here among you
In cities and towns
That judge me by standards
That man has imparted
But this family I’ve chosen
Will help me get started
For I’m one of the children
So special and few
That came here to learn
The same lessons as you
That love is acceptance
It must come from the heart
We all have the same purpose
Though not the same start
The Lord gave me life
To live and embrace
And I’ll do as you do
But at my own pace.
