Information question with “be”: How is he?
Notice the question words “who, what, where, and how”:

Is he Mr. Newman? No.              Who is he?             He’s Mr. Vargas.
Is he a doctor? No.                What is he?            He’s a teacher.
Is he in China? No.                Where is he?           He’s in Mexico.
Is he sick? No.                    How is he?             He’s happy.

Use the appropriate question word in the first position:
  - Use “who” for identification.
  - Use “where” for location.
  - Use “what” for classification.
  - Use “how” for quality or state.

The articles “a” and “the”: The man is tall.
Notice the use of a and the:

This is a book. (The object is classified: It’s a book, not a boy.)
The book is small. (The book is identified.)
The moon is in the sky. (Unique: one moon. One sky)

Use “a” to indicate “classified, categorized”.
Use “the” to indicate “identified, specified, and unique”.

2. Make sentences about each picture using the article “the”.
- A woman and a boy are in class. …………………………The boy is a student.
                                                            The woman is a teacher.

- A pilot and travel agent are in Dublin. ……………………..The pilot is a handsome.
                                                    The travel agent is a beautiful.

- A brother and a sister are in Europe. ………………………The brother is in German.
                                                 The sister is in France.

- A man and a woman are in room. ………………………….The man is short
                                            The woman is tall.

- We are in a city and in a country. …………………………..The city is Caracas.
                                                 The country is Venezuela.

The articles “a” and “an”: It’s a book. It’s an apple.

- It’s a banana.                                             - It’s a cat.
- It’s an eye.                                               – It’s an apple.

Use “a” before consonants.                             Use “an” before vowels.

Articles with singular and plural nouns: He’s a pilot. The boy are students.
Notice the articles a, an, and the with singular and plural nouns:

- He’s a tourist.                                            – They’re tourists.
- It’s an apple.                                             – They’re apples.
- The student is intelligent.                                – The students are intelligent.
- The apple is delicious.                                    – The apples are delicious.

Modifier of nouns: He’s a good doctor.
Notice the position of the modifiers good, young, art, and night:

The doctor is good. ……………………………………………He’s a                              good doctor.
The dresses are short. ………………………………………..They’re                          short dresses.
The book is on art. …………………………………………….It’s an                            art   book.
The classes are at night. ……………………………………..They’re                        night classes.

Modifiers precede the nouns they modify.
