This document discusses how contrast and comparison are expressed in writing. Contrast is used to show how things are different and key words include "but", "although", and "nevertheless". 2. How is contrast expressed?
The contrast is to tell how two or more things are different.
The most important key words are:
• But
• (AL)Though
• In Spite of
• Never Theless
• However
• Yet / Still
• Any Way
• Even Though

3. THE USE OF THE KEY WORDS?
• Although and Though mean exactly the same and are
used the same.
• But Though is more informal and more common when
talking.
• Although is more formal and more common when writing.

Compare is to tell how two or more things are alike.
