Integration Testing as Validation and MonitoringMelissa Benua
In the world of software-as-a-service, just about anyone with a laptop and an Internet connection can spin up their very own cloud-based web service. Software startups, in particular, are often big on ideas but small on staff. This makes streamlining the traditional develop-test-integrate-deploy-monitor pipeline critically important. Melissa Benua says that an effective way to accomplish this is to reduce the number of different test suites that verify many of the same things for each stage. Melissa explains how teams can avoid this by authoring the right set of tests and using the right frameworks. Drawing on lessons learned in companies both large and small, Melissa shows how teams can drastically slash time spent developing automation, verifying builds for release, and monitoring code in production—without sacrificing availability or reliability.
Tired of having users email you that your web application is broken? Turns out that building reliable web applications is hard and requires a lot of testing. You can write unit tests but quite often these all pass and the application is still broken. Why? Because they test parts of the application in isolation. But for a reliable application we need more. We need to make sure that all parts work together as intended.
Cypress is a great tool to achieve this. It will test you complete web application in the browser and use it like a real user would. In this session Maurice will show you how to use Cypress during development and on the CI server. He will share tips and tricks to make your tests more resilient and more like how an actual end user would behave.

Heavenly hell – automated tests at scale wojciech seligaAtlassian
Last Summit, we walked you through a migration from SVN to Git. So now you’re on Git – but what do you do with those branches? Branching in Git is great, but can be intimidating for those coming over from other SCMs. In this talk, you will learn all about branches – how to use them, organize them, and even revert an accidental merge. Embrace those branches and make them work for your team.
Configuring and maintaining a continuous integration environment is quite a bit of work. It requires ongoing resources both in terms of manpower and hardware infrastructure. As an application evolves so does the number of ongoing projects. The challenge is creating a scalable continuous integration environment which does not impede development and can handle the complexities of Java EE testing. This session covers how to setup and configure a cloud-based continuous integration environment for Java EE applications.
The presentation will focus on demonstrating how to use Atlassian Bamboo running on AWS to build and test a Maven/Gradle Java EE project that uses Arquillian for testing. Topics that will be covered include creating a custom AWS VM for use with Bamboo, creating an Amazon VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) along with test database using Amazon RDS. The presentation will delve into the specifics of testing EJBs, WebSocket endpoints, RESTful web services, as well as performing load testing in this environment. Security, cost control, and build monitoring will be covered as well.
Blazor Stability Testing Tools for Bullet Proof ApplicationsEd Charbeneau
.NET in the browser may sound like Blazor's strength, however the story of Blazor testing may just be its biggest potential upside. In this session we'll discuss what makes Blazor an ideal candidate for: Unit Testing, Integration Testing, and Automated System Testing.
Serverless architectures let you build and deploy applications and services with infrastructure resources that require zero administration. In the past, you had to provision and scale servers to run your application code, install and operate distributed databases, and build and run custom software to handle API requests. Now, AWS provides a stack of scalable, fully-managed services that eliminates these operational complexities.
In this session, you will learn about the benefits of serverless architectures and the basics of the serverless stack AWS provides. We will also walk through how you can use serverless architectures for everything from data processing to mobile and web backends.

Continuous Integration as a Way of LifeMelissa Benua
Continuous integration (CI) is a buzzword in software development today. We know it means “run lots of builds,” but having a continuous integration pipeline opens up opportunities well beyond making sure your team's code compiles. What if this pipeline could improve everything from the quality of code reviews to how often and safely you deploy to production and how you monitor your product in the wild? What if CI could provide insights into how automated tests are performing and how to improve them? Melissa Benua describes how to set up a basic CI infrastructure and then transform it into a way of life for development and test teams. Using free or nearly free tools, Melissa walks through a practical approach to making sure your code works—all the time and at every stage of the release train. Come away with practical advice for creating builds and running automation on the fly without spending hundreds of hours or thousands of dollars.
Escaping Automated Test Hell - One Year LaterWojciech Seliga
Slides from my talk at 33rd Degree 2013 Conference in Warsaw.
More than year ago we faced the fact that we are hitting the wall with our large scale automated testing in Atlassian JIRA. We analysed the problems and possible solutions and shared them with community at 33rd Degree in 2012. Since then we've implemented a lot of our ideas and come up with new, learnt new quite unexpected things and got rid of Selenium 1 completely.
This session shows the learnings from our journey – escaping from Test Hell – back to the normality.
If you are interested to hear what problems you can (and probably will) face if you have thousands of automated tests on on levels of abstractions (functional, integration, unit, UI, performance) and what solutions can be applied to remedy them – this presentation is for you.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
SOCRadar Research Team: Latest Activities of IntelBrokerSOCRadar
The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) has suffered an alleged data breach after a notorious threat actor claimed to have exfiltrated data from its systems. Infamous data leaker IntelBroker posted on the even more infamous BreachForums hacking forum, saying that Europol suffered a data breach this month.
The alleged breach affected Europol agencies CCSE, EC3, Europol Platform for Experts, Law Enforcement Forum, and SIRIUS. Infiltration of these entities can disrupt ongoing investigations and compromise sensitive intelligence shared among international law enforcement agencies.
However, this is neither the first nor the last activity of IntekBroker. We have compiled for you what happened in the last few days. To track such hacker activities on dark web sources like hacker forums, private Telegram channels, and other hidden platforms where cyber threats often originate, you can check SOCRadar’s Dark Web News.

Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.
