The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

- 3. NAVIGATE TO: www.google.com LOG IN TO YOUR GOOGLE APPS FOR EDUCATION ACCOUNT: username@g.horrycountyschools.net OPEN UP YOUR GOOGLE DRIVE
- 5. IF YOU CHECK THE TOP TWO BOXES IN “FORM SETTINGS”, THE FORM WILL FORCE STUDENTS TO LOG IN TO THEIR GOOGLE APPS ACCOUNT AND AUTOMATICALLY COLLECT THEIR EMAIL ADDRESS.
- 6. HAVE YOUR STUDENTS COMPLETE THE FORM
- 7. THEIR RESPONSES WILL AUTOMATICALLY POPULATE A SPREADSHEET FOR YOU AS THE TEACHER
- 8. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE HOW TO FIND YOUR SPREADSHEET, GO TO YOUR FORM AND CLICK “VIEW RESPONSES”.
- 9. STEP CREATE A CONTACT GROUP IN GMAIL 2
- 10. NAVIGATE TO: www.google.com LOG IN TO YOUR GOOGLE APPS FOR EDUCATION ACCOUNT: username@g.horrycountyschools.net OPEN UP YOUR GMAIL
- 12. FROM THE CONTACTS MENU, SELECT “NEW GROUP”
- 13. GIVE YOUR GROUP A UNIQUE NAME THEN CLICK “OK”
- 14. YOUR NEW GROUP WILL NOW APPEAR UNDER “MY CONTACTS”
- 15. CLICK ON YOUR GROUP THEN SELECT THE “ADD MEMBERS” ICON PASTE THE EMAIL ADDRESSES YOU COLLECTED ON YOUR GOOGLE FORM
- 16. THIS NUMBER TELLS YOU HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE IN YOUR GROUP ANY TIME YOU CLICK ON YOUR GROUP, YOU WILL SEE ALL YOUR GROUPS MEMBERS.
- 17. STEP SEND EMAILS AND SHARE ITEMS USING CONTACT GROUPS 3
- 18. NOW WHEN SENDING AN EMAIL VIA GMAIL, JUST TYPE THE NAME OF YOUR GROUP AND IT WILL SEND THE MESSAGE TO ALL THE GROUP MEMBERS
- 19. OR WHEN SHARING ITEMS IN YOUR GOOGLE DRIVE, INSTEAD OF SHARING WITH INDIVIDUALS ONE-BY-ONE…. SHARE WITH THE CONTACT GROUP AT ONCE.
