This assignment addresses Course Objectives 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
This assignment has been adapted from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Managing Virtual Work Teams – A SHRM case study by Frankie S. Jones, PhD.
For this assignment there are three parts.
· Part I: An Introduction to Virtual Teams
· Part II: Building a Virtual Team
· Part III: Managing Conflict Virtually
Directions:
you will review, discuss, and address questions in each of these parts in order to arrive at your collective responses.
After reviewing all three parts associated with this case, you will prepare a 4-7 page paper that addresses the questions in each of the three parts. This paper will serve as your voice to coach Lauren on how to lead her cross-functional team to success and overcome the issues presented in the case study.. Your paper should include a minimum of 8 references from sources published within the last ten years.
Part I: An Introduction to Virtual Teams
Lauren is assigned team leader of a cross-functional team for a very important project to the company. Lauren reviews the profiles of the six team members her boss gave her. She is both intrigued and anxious when she sees that team members are geographically dispersed.
Lauren works in the Atlanta office. One team member is in India; another is in Germany; and the rest live in the United States, but in different time zones. Two staff members are in the eastern time zone (Virginia and North Carolina) and two staff members are in the central time zone (Texas and Louisiana).
Lauren has never managed a virtual team and is unsure what special skills it will take to be successful. She begins to wonder what competencies are necessary for virtual team leaders and members. She studies the team member profiles and creates a matrix to evaluate each member’s strengths and weaknesses from the perspective of working virtually. She includes herself because she realizes she needs to evaluate her own strengths and weaknesses. Lauren thinks about the challenges and opportunities she will face managing this virtual team.
In your assigned groups, you are to:
· Analyze the supplied team member matrix.
· Identify challenges and opportunities Lauren’s team might face.
· Brainstorm ways to capitalize on opportunities and address challenges.
· Record your ideas in the group discussion forum.

Virtual Teams Making It WorkVirtual teams are composed of emplo.docxnealwaters20034
Virtual Teams: Making It Work
V
irtual teams are composed of employees who are physically dispersed throughout the nation or around the world. They are linked by various forms of electronic technology. Face-to-face contact is usually minimal or nonexistent. Virtual teams face several challenges: time zone differences, which make quick information exchanges difficult, and cultural miscues, which can cause misunderstandings. When teams don’t meet in person, its less likely they will develop the kind of chemistry common to productive teams that have face-to-face meetings. Many virtual teams are in continuous danger of becoming dysfunctional.
Recent research has identified certain traits and practices common to most virtual teams. Here are a few important rules for making these teams productive.
Choose a few team members who already know each other. This will speed up the process of building networks among team members. Invest in online resources that help all team members quickly learn about one another.
Ensure the task is meaningful to team members and the company. Assign tasks that are challenging and interesting.
The virtual team should include “boundary spanners,” persons who have many connections to useful people outside of the team.
Develop a team mission statement along with teamwork expectations, project goals, and deadlines.
Create an online site where team members can collaborate, exchange ideas, and motivate one another. The team should have a shared online work space that all members can access 24 hours a day.
Encourage frequent communication and try to reach agreement about preferred communication tools.
If you are a virtual team leader, find ways to mark team progress toward goals.
Instructions: Answer the questions below for this assignment. Keep in mind the information preceding the instructions when preparing your paper, and ensure that you follow the format for this assignment provided immediately following the Questions.
Questions
Which of the five dysfunctions of a team (presented in
Chapter 12, Figure 12.3
) would be the greatest barriers to virtual team productivity? Defend your answer.
Figure 12.3
Five Dysfunctions of a Team
Patrick Lencioni believes that effective teamwork is not common in most organizations. Too often teams fall prey to five interrelated dysfunctions:
Absence of Trust: Trust is the foundation of effective teamwork.
Fear of Conflict: Teams that lack trust are not capable of engaging in open, unfiltered debate.
Lack of Commitment: When team members fail to voice their views openly during passionate debate, they rarely buy in and commit to decisions.
Avoidance of Accountability: Without commitment and buy in, team members are often hesitant to call their peers on actions and behaviors that seem counterproductive to the good of the team.
Inattention to Results: Failure to hold one another accountable creates an environment where team members put their own needs above the collective goals of the team.

Guide and Grading Rubric
Below you have the situation of troubled, diverse team which you have been just asked to manage. You decide how to approach the situation or problem.
Through a set of short-answer essay questions
identify how you would manage this situation as the leader.
Short answer essay
means that you review each question (listed later in the guide) and answer that question with several sentences to explain your answer.
For most of the questions, you are likely to structure your answer into 2 or more paragraphs, with one topic per paragraph to explain clearly and logically.
The Situation
You are the new leader of a 6-person team. The team all works out of a large medical device/pharmaceutical company in NJ. It is tasked with researching an implant/pump that can increase management of insulin release for Type 2 Diabetics.
If successful the project will be highly rewarded—not only will the team’s professionals be developing a profitable product for the company, but the device will be very beneficial to diabetics all over the world.
The team is made up of the following people:
John - 43 year old (Afro-American)
Julie - 51 year old (Chinese)
Jinsoo - 27 year old (Korean)
Darius - 32 year male (Iranian)
Harpreet - 30 year old female (Indian)
Tom - 33 year old (Irish)
And you, the new manager (your national culture)
Darius and Harpreet joined the team 3 months ago. The rest of the team has been together for more than 9 months. The team has been working on the implant pump that is due to be delivered in 45 days. You, as the leader, have a lot riding on this project, including a promotion.
Darius and Harpreet have unique skills and experience that require them to work together on a key part of your project however, they do not get along and have been bickering and complaining about each other for the last month or so. Today, Harpreet complained to you that Darius, as a Muslim, has been deliberately undermining her and does not respect her because she is a woman and a Hindu.
The rest of team knows of this tension and are distracted by the situation.
Your project is getting off schedule and the project deadline is now 45 days away.

Small group communication
A brief introduction and reflection of your past experiences in groups.
My past experiences of working in small groups has been very challenging whether its working for a school project or for other social events that I have hosted in a collaboration with other student clubs outside of the school.
• Communication among the group is one of the key concepts of successful group work, unfortunately it is one of the hardest things to achieve one of the team members always tend to be disengaged.

Working with international students, most times when working in a group with one or more international students the rest of the group tend to give international students the least amount of work stems from this notion of power dynamics tying their ability to speak english to their performance.
• Taking control claiming the work
• Valuing opinions
A discussion surrounding how your identity would be valuable to a group. What makes you standout? What makes you who you are? How would these aspects of the self play out in a group setting? Be descriptive here.

The study of social movement reflects the social issues in differe.docxarnoldmeredith47041
The study of social movement reflects the social issues in different periods have faced. This work will focus on the Abolition Movement and the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) social movements. Social movement are a result of general public consensus towards dealing with major social issues in the community. This work will study the historical background and ideals that supported the development of these two social movement. This is intended to show the correlation between their emergence and the key social issues that the community faced. The Abolition Movement emerged in an effort to end slavery in the country. It held that all people are created equal, and hence the practice of slavery was unacceptable. This movement existed in the 19th century when many people started publicly displaying dissatisfaction for the slavery practices in the country. It placed more pressure on the authorities to outlaw slavery (Martos, Wilson & Meyer, 2017). It would allow for increased debate about segregation and discrimination. The LGBT movement is much more recent. It was started with the goal of affording members of the LGBT community with the same rights and recognition of heterosexual members of the community. For many generations, people categorized as LGBT were shunned and discriminated against. This movement intended to overcome these limitations set on the community members. It was motivated by the need to end widespread homophobic, transphobic and biphobic attitudes in the American community (Lysack, 2012).It is interesting to observe these roles that these social movements played in American history. It is especially interesting to know how each relates to the social issues that affected the American public at different times in the country’s history.

Creating Your Personal Brand
Your brand is your reputation – the perception of you held by the external world. It is the combination of personal attributes, values, drivers, strengths, and passions you draw from that differentiates your unique promise of value from your peers, and helps those assessing you to determine if they should hire you or do business with you.
You need to identify those qualities and characteristics within you and communicate a crystal clear, consistent message across multiple channels – online and offline – designed to resonate with your target audience.
Below is the 10-step brand assessment. Take your time and be honest with yourself.
Respond to all questions thoughtfully.
1. What are your vision and purpose? Think about one world problem you would like to see solved or one area of life that you want to see transformed or improved. This is your vision. What role might you play in making your vision happen? This is your purpose.
2. What are your values? Your values are your guiding principles, such as balance, honesty, etc.
3. What are your passions? What do you most enjoy doing – in your personal life and work life? Think about the activities, interests, or conversational topics that fascinate and energize you.
4. What are your top goals for the next year, 2 years, and 5 years? Work on projecting what you intend to accomplish so you can put together a strategic action plan to get there.
5. What are your top brand attributes? What 3 or 4 adjectives best describe the value you offer? What words do you use to define your personality? Once you pinpoint what you feel are the right kinds of words, it’s a good idea to consult a thesaurus to precisely nail the exact words, such as collaborative, forward-focused, risk-taking, etc.
6. What are your core strengths and motivated skills? In what functions and responsibilities do you excel? For what things are you the designated “go-to” person? What gap would your company be faced with if you left suddenly?
7. Get feedback from those who know you best – at work, at home, anywhere. The true measure of your brand is the reputation others hold of you. Ask them what your top brand attributes and core strengths are.
8. Do a SWOT analysis. Strengths and weaknesses are internal, and speak to your potential value to an employer. Opportunities and threats are external, and help you foresee what you’re facing in next career steps.
9. Who is/are your target audience(s)? Determine where you want to work (kind of job position and industry). Learn what decision makers in that field are looking for when they’re assessing candidates. Create your personal brand messaging around what keywords and content will attract them.
10. Who is your competition in the marketplace and what differentiates you from them? What do the people competing for the same jobs as you typically have to offer? What is it about you that makes you the best hiring choice? What added value do y ...

Group Work (135 points)
Your group is working for a global organization that handles highly classified intellectual property. In many situations and scenarios, the implementation and operations teams have been creating and setting up environments that violate your vision for security. After discussing the situation with various parties, they all admit they do not fully know or understand what is expected from them as they set up and configure the environment. To solve this situation, your group has been asked to create a network security policy for the organization.
Each group member will choose an element of the policy to design and the group will collaborate on what the overall design and outline should look like and include components from end user behavior and training plan, file and folder access, social engineering safeguards, bring your own device policies, use of external drives on company assets, security hardware, penetration testing, and affiliation of the information security department with law enforcement agencies. Students may either interview someone in the local FBI field office or research the FBI and DHS Web sites related to information sharing programs that the government offers, as this could be advantageous to the organization’s information security program.

Writing a Draft of the Personal Document
Revising your writing provides you the chance to ensure your ideas are clear and effective prior to submitting the final draft. At times it can be challenging to see problematic areas in your own writing; this is where peer feedback can be very beneficial.
Prepare: Complete the assigned Unit 4 Reading and Learning Activities. Preview the Unit 4 Assignment details.
Review the topic ideas and prewriting you posted to the Unit 3 Discussion Board as well as the feedback you received from your classmates. Make any necessary adjustments to your topic, audience, and main point. That will prepare you to write a rough draft of your blog post.
Post: Post Your Draft
Using your prewriting ideas and feedback that helped you to choose one topic, audience, and purpose, write a 2–3-paragraph rough draft of your Unit 4 Assignment and post it to the Discussion Board. This is going to be a rough draft, so do not worry if it needs editing and revision. All drafts need work.
Include a bit of self-reflection as well so the class knows how to best help you:
· What aspects of your draft do you think could use development?
· What aspects of your draft do you think are strong?
· Which areas of your draft are you still working on?
· Include an open-ended question about any issue your initial post raises which your classmates can help you with.
Respond: Respond to classmates’ postings
Make comments and ask questions about two classmates’ drafts. Be sure to address the following points:
· What was the purpose of the document?
· Who is the intended audience?
· If you were the audience, would you be helped by the writer’s points and use of personal experience? How so?
· Are there places where more needs to be said?
· Using your knowledge of the revision process, what suggestions could you make for revising this draft?
Review a sample student Discussion Board post.
Discussion requirements
Initial post should:
· demonstrate effectively developed paragraphs
· be on topic
· be original
· contribute to the quality of the discussion
· make frequent and informed references to the unit concepts
ASSIGNMENT
Expressing Yourself Informally
For the Unit 4 Assignment, you will write a 1–1.5-page, double spaced, informal and personal blog post on an issue that is in some way relevant to your field of study and that you have personal experience with.
According to The Social Psychology Network, a blog, “short for "web log," is an online journal or record of sequential postings with news, commentary, or other material” (2017). Like an essay, a blog post establishes and develops a clear point about a topic or issue. Depending on the topic, audience, and purpose, a blog can be formal or informal. A blog written by an individual, for example, tends to be about his or her experience with the topic and is written in first person.
Imagine for this Assignment that you have created your own blog site and that you are writing a post for your blog .

Contemporary theatre, both commercial and non-commercial, has seen a huge increase in diversity -- diversity among playwrights and their plays, actors, directors, designers and theatre practitioners. Diverse artists have always shown themselves to be an integral part of theatre and theatre history, though in contemporary theatre they are sometimes referred to “artists of a diverse background” instead of just theatre artists.
These artists come from a selection of groups, cultures and categories including, but not limited by:
Gender-Specific (i.e. Female)
Native American
Hispanic
African-American
Asian-American
Gay and Lesbian
and others
This assignment requires you to...

(playwright, actor, designer, etc.) from the groups listed above
explore, prepare and discuss
his or her historical, social and cultural importance to what we call “diverse contemporary theatre” today (the focus here is on theatre not their impact to film, television or music)
Create your response, in the Assignment submission box below (not in the Comments field), as a journal or diary entry. This response will not be read by your fellow classmates. The journal should be 1-2 pages long, approximately 400-500 words minimum. Be careful of spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation...proofread and edit your work as necessary.

To keep the scope narrow, your group should first describe what should be included and what should not be included in the policy (remember that a policy should clearly s.

Contemporary theatre, both commercial and non-commercial, has .docxaidaclewer
Contemporary theatre, both commercial and non-commercial, has seen a huge increase in diversity -- diversity among playwrights and their plays, actors, directors, designers and theatre practitioners. Diverse artists have always shown themselves to be an integral part of theatre and theatre history, though in contemporary theatre they are sometimes referred to “artists of a diverse background” instead of just theatre artists.
These artists come from a selection of groups, cultures and categories including, but not limited by:
Gender-Specific (i.e. Female)
Native American
Hispanic
African-American
Asian-American
Gay and Lesbian
and others
This assignment requires you to...
select one person
(playwright, actor, designer, etc.) from the groups listed above
explore, prepare and discuss

When someone seeks out a psychologist for assistance in overcoming issues related to a change in their familial structure or because of racial or ethnic discrimination, the psychologist should be experienced in the particular challenges this patient is facing. Clinical psychology has had to develop new ways to treat these patients as previous strategies were not as beneficial as they could be. Clinical psychologists also needed to evolve as psychology did so that they have the knowledge and experience to assist patients in these particular situations.

Changes to Family Structure
Separation
Divorce
As time continues to go on, the American family is not what is once was. Over the last 50 years there has been a dramatic rise in divorce; the highest it has ever been in the U.S. Divorce affects all types of marriages, whether it a heterosexual couples, blended couples, and even homosexual couples. “This marks a shift away from the ideal of the companion marriage popularized in the early 1920’s to self-aspiration, enhanced freedom, and egalitarian relationships” (Castelloe, 2011). Since the 1960’s the rate of divorce and separation has risen because of the fact that “society has become more inclusive and women more financially independent, resulting in increased tension in marriages between individualization and what psychoanalyst Erik Erickson described as “generativity,” a concern for the welfare of others” (Castelloe, 2011).

Children of Divorce
Divorce is not exactly privy to one specific culture or ethnicity; many people of all races become separated or divorced. Since 1970, the rate of divorce, at 72%, has declined to 59% (Friedman, n.d.). Jeffrey Drew conducted a study in 2009 on couples who argued about finances. He concluded that couples who argued about finances more than once a week were more than 30% likely to get divorced than couples who argue about it only a few times a month. “According to Drew, couples who disagree about money less than once per month run a 30-40% increase in the risk of divorce” (Divorce Source, 1996). The rate of divorce ultimately increases as the arguments become more often, several times a week, daily; the risk increases 125% to 160% (Divorce Source, 1996). It is believed that children who come from a separated family or divorced family are going to be two times more likely to get divorced than a child whose parents remained together (Castelloe, 2011).

How This Online Course Works
This course is being offered in a fully online format. This means that all of your course activities will
take place within the Blackboard course. There will not be any specific times when you will have to be
online with your instructor or your classmates during the semester. This gives you the flexibility of
doing your assignments at times during the day when you can be at a computer and work without
distractions. For some students this is early in the morning and for others late at night. An advantage
of online study is that your classroom is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Because of this schedule flexibility, time management is always a challenge for students in fully online
courses. Be sure you set a.

Consumer Brand Metrics Q3 2015
Eater Archetypes:
Brand usage and preferences by consumer segment
The restaurant industry has long relied on demographic factors to
identify and prioritize consumer groups. For example, many
brands currently obsess over attracting Millennials—some
without pausing to consider the variations among consumers
within this demographic cohort. In addition to life stages,
consumer attitudes about health, value, convenience and the
overall role of foodservice in their lives drive significant
differences in preferences and behavior.
With these distinctions in mind, we have updated the Consumer
Brand Metrics (CBM) survey with questions that allow us to
segment consumers into one of seven Eater Archetypes. Each
segment has a distinct psychographic profile, which is outlined in
our recent Consumer Foodservice Landscape. Accordingly, their
patronage of the segments and brands tracked in CBM varies.
This paper explores some differences we can discern after the
initial quarterly results, including the archetypes’ segment usage,
brand patronage and occasion dynamics. Examining CBM data by
Eater Archetype reveals nuances that complement a demographic
profile of a chain’s guests.

Consumer Brand Metrics Q3 2015
Segmenting consumers by psychographic factors, rather than
just demographic characteristics, can lead to a better
understanding of the consumers that matter to your brand and
how to appeal to them.
Key Takeaways
Busy Balancers and Functional Eaters drive usage across
restaurants and convenience stores. Full-service restaurant
(FSR) operators may also consider targeting Foodservice
Hobbyists and Affluent Socializers, as these archetypes
comprise more than a quarter of FSR patrons, on average.
How does foodser vice segment usage vary by archetype?
Driven by unique needs and motivations, Eater Archetypes
gravitate to a wide variety of brands. For example,
McDonald’s, Burger King and Whataburger each
disproportionately attract unique archetypes (Habitual
Matures, Bargain Hunters and Functional Eaters,
respectively).
Which chains do each archetype visit most frequently?
Archetypes that patronize the same restaurant may not use
the brand the same way. For example, usage varies by
daypart, with afternoon snacks skewing to Busy Balancers
and late-night meals driven by Functional Eaters. Archetypes
also diverge in their party composition, as visits with children
skew to Busy Balancers.
Which archetypes drive specific occasions?

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

1. Consulting Project
This assignment is worth 20% of your grade. Your consulting
report should be original work;
If you have any questions about this assignment, please post
them in the Ask the Professor discussion forum so that everyone
can benefit from the answers.
This assignment addresses Course Objectives 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
This assignment has been adapted from the Society for Human
Resource Management (SHRM), Managing Virtual Work Teams
– A SHRM case study by Frankie S. Jones, PhD.
For this assignment there are three parts.
· Part I: An Introduction to Virtual Teams
· Part II: Building a Virtual Team
· Part III: Managing Conflict Virtually
Directions:
you will review, discuss, and address questions in each of these
parts in order to arrive at your collective responses.
After reviewing all three parts associated with this case, you
will prepare a 4-7 page paper that addresses the questions in
each of the three parts. This paper will serve as your voice to
coach Lauren on how to lead her cross-functional team to
success and overcome the issues presented in the case study..
Your paper should include a minimum of 8 references from
sources published within the last ten years.
2. Part I: An Introduction to Virtual Teams
Lauren is assigned team leader of a cross-functional team for a
very important project to the company. Lauren reviews the
profiles of the six team members her boss gave her. She is both
intrigued and anxious when she sees that team members are
geographically dispersed.
Lauren works in the Atlanta office. One team member is in
India; another is in Germany; and the rest live in the United
States, but in different time zones. Two staff members are in
the eastern time zone (Virginia and North Carolina) and two
staff members are in the central time zone (Texas and
Louisiana).
Lauren has never managed a virtual team and is unsure what
special skills it will take to be successful. She begins to
wonder what competencies are necessary for virtual team
leaders and members. She studies the team member profiles and
creates a matrix to evaluate each member’s strengths and
weaknesses from the perspective of working virtually. She
includes herself because she realizes she needs to evaluate her
own strengths and weaknesses. Lauren thinks about the
challenges and opportunities she will face managing this virtual
team.
In your assigned groups, you are to:
· Analyze the supplied team member matrix.
· Identify challenges and opportunities Lauren’s team might
face.
· Brainstorm ways to capitalize on opportunities and address
challenges.
3. · Record your ideas in the group discussion forum.

Part II: Building a Virtual Team
Lauren has evaluated the challenges and opportunities that
could arise as she manages her virtual team. To mitigate
challenges and take advantage of opportunities, she decides to
conduct a kick-off meeting next week. She wants to set the
ground rules for how her team will operate and present them at
the kick-off meeting. What topics should Lauren’s agenda
include? Which ground rules should she mandate and which
should she negotiate? How will she build relationships and
trust during this initial meeting?
In your assigned groups, you are to:
· Create an agenda for Lauren’s kick-off meeting.
· Explain why you chose each agenda topic.
· Describe what technology Lauren might use to conduct the
kick-off meeting.
· Identify ground rules for the team, and propose which ground
rules Lauren should mandate and which ones she should
negotiate.

Part III: Managing Conflict Virtually
9. Even though your team presented Lauren with an agenda for the
kickoff meeting, along with ground rules, she used the agenda
below for the kick-off meeting.
She set expectations for status reporting, the technologies to be
used, and performance management. The types of
communication the team agreed on included e-mail, instant
messaging, and web conferencing. The team also agreed to use
Microsoft SharePoint to report project status and to create a
virtual community for team members to build relationships and
trust. Lauren asked all team members to upload their pictures
and their résumés to jump-start the community.
Lauren’s Agenda:
· Getting-to-Know-You Activity
· Team Goals and Objectives
· Technologies We Will Use (open discussion)
· Virtual Community (pictures and bios)
· Status Reporting
· Team Meetings
· One-on-one meetings
Despite setting ground rules, the following conflicts arose
within Lauren’s team:
· Lags in e-mail responses generated mistrust between two team
members.
10. · One team member complained that the other team members
tried to use instant messaging to solve complex problems and
resolutions are never reached.
· There has been an uneven exchange of project knowledge.
In your assigned groups, you are to:
· Recommend actions Lauren should take now to resolve each of
these conflicts.
· Discuss what Lauren could have done to prevent the conflicts
from occurring in the first place.
· Recommend actions Lauren can take to minimize team conflict
in the future.
· Record your responses in the group discussion forum.
