Consciousness Essay example
Consciousness
To define such a universally experienced phenomena as consciousness may seem on the most superficial level rather unnecessary. Yet a more scientific,
and at times philosophical, investigation into the phenomena demands some sort of confirmed interpretation which supercedes any such common
understanding. For our purposes the content of consciousness may be deemed those things of which one is aware and thus can report. Thinking, as
well, and the higher–level mechanisms associated there in may also be components of this consciousness. While additionally an individuals' conception
that the way in which she experiences the world comes from more than just the neuronal activity of her brain can be understood as a contribution...show

Certain individuals who have experienced extensive damage to those cortical areas related to sight may report an inability to perceive visual stimuli. In
some cases, when presented with a moving spot of light, such individuals who claim to have witnessed no optical occurrence whatsoever will
subsequently "guess", well above chance level, the direction of the lights' movement (1). In this phenomena of blindsight it would be the individual's
"on–line system" (or "I–function") which provokes the claims that he perceives no stimuli while clearly the "seeing system" has, though on an
unconscious level, seen something (1).
In an attempt to determine the location of the neuronal correlate of consciousness Crick and Koch conducted research that used images characterized by
their bistable precepts. Such visual stimuli (ex: the Serendip – directional arrows) present a constant visual input which results in two possible subject
precepts – which tend to alternate in conscious perception. An experimental determination is subsequently made as to which neurons in the brain are
attending to the input and which to the precept (whichever is being conceived at that moment). This type of investigative procedure has been
preformed on the macaque visual system and results from research published in 1989 by Logothetis indicated that monkeys (non–human primates) and
humans perceive such bistable inputs in

UCF Personal Statement
When I was growing up, my parents always encouraged me to do well in school and to go college to create a better and brighter future for myself.
Growing up with parents that did not even finish middle school, I always knew that I wanted to go to college, but once I reached my senior year of
high school, I felt confused as to what I really wanted to do. I always thought that I somewhat knew what I wanted to study, but once I got to the end of
high school, I began wondering what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Therefore, I decided to apply for the COMPASS program at UCF because I
like the areas of science and math, so I thought that I could explore some more majors in those areas. As I took MHS 2330, I became more exposed to

I even took health science classes as part of the medical academy three years in a row during high school because I always thought that I wanted to
enter the medical field. However, towards the end of my senior year in high school, I wondered to myself if I wanted to go through numerous years of
college, medical school, residency, and fellowship that required a copious amount of time and money in order to become a doctor. I think one of
the biggest obstacles for me deciding on Biomedical Sciences is the time and money required to finally show results of my decision. With that
said, I really enjoyed my time in the health science classes I took throughout my high school years because it was really fun and I liked the idea of
helping people. Therefore, that is one of the biggest reasons for my conflict in actually choosing to major in Biomedical Sciences. If I took
Biomedical Sciences, I know that it leads me towards a path of becoming a physician, pharmacist, dentist, physician's assistant, and many other
medical careers, but I still don't exactly know if it is right for me. Even in the My Plan assessments that I took, it said that health care is number two in
the areas that I have a match

Daniel Tosh was once a former University of Central Florida and is now a comedian. UCF was founded in June 10, 1963 and is located near
Orlando, Florida. The cost for this school is expensive just to enter and join. Campus life in the college is some amazing and fair. For the
requirements people don't have to do so much just to join in.The parties are mostly crazy and the size of the school is pretty sizeable. The University of
Central Florida has a reasonable size, price, campus life and much more.
The cost of this school has a pretty expensive price to it. The price to according to cappex.com to go into the school out of state the yearly price is

Ucf Triathlon Training Program
ORLANDO– UCF students are constantly searching for different ways to reach their personal goals, and a select group look to bike, swim, and run
their way to theirs on April 10 at the Ron Jon Cocoa Beach annual Triathlon.
Every spring, the Recreation and Wellness Center hosts a 12–week triathlon training program that gradually prepares participating students to swim .25
miles, bike 12.5 miles and run 3.1 miles in a full sprint. The only requirement is to be a registered UCF student, and it is free to train with the aid of
several coaches.
This spring, approximately 40 students have committed to the training program and about half of them plan on entering the triathlon, according to
Scott Mauro, Marketing and Communications manager at UCF.
"This is one of the most popular outdoor workouts in Florida," Scott said.

It is set up to hit the basics first and increase intensity and distances for trainings throughout the 12–week program according to Medina.
As April 10 quickly approaches and people all over the US get ready to race, UCF students prepare to come face–to–face with the finish line. The UCF
community is encouraged to come out and show their fellow classmates support for the hard work and dedication they've put forward for this sprint
race, or even enter the race themselves.
If you want to join the Ron Jon triathlon, fees are iapproximately $80 to run. You can still sign up, but may be placed on a wait.
Bummed you might have missed out on this training? This is not the only training program RWC has to offer. Students are encouraged to train in other
semesters too, like the half marathon training program held during the fall semester, or join the 100–mile swimming program at any point of the year
according to Medina said.

UCF Understudy Analysis
I trust that I have the right qualities to be an effective understudy at UCF, and help in their attempt to become much further. My own reasoning is that
overseeing time astutely will prompt scholarly achievement, a great state of mind, and better associations with others. I endeavor to accomplish the
high evaluations I acquire in school. I am a standout amongst the most propelled individuals I know. Stalling might be a well known strategy for a
few understudies, however it is not, and will never be, the way I work. I realize that in school, falling route behind and all of a sudden attempting to
make it all up in one day won't get you by like it may in secondary school. All through secondary school, I have constantly gotten my work done directly

What makes me, Hunter Wilkins, an invaluable addition to the UCF community? There are many reasons UCF, and the city of Orlando will benefit
from my acceptance. My high energy and sound team skills are defining parts of my plan to excel in college while simultaneously making an impact on
my community.
Personal energy has continually been a valuable asset throughout my life. During the past two summers, I have travelled to Estonia to teach English
with an organization called Josiah Venture. These trips consisted of ten days of hectic excitement leaving only about four hours for sleep. While
pushing through, I continually tried to keep the energy high and distract my fellow English teachers from their sleep deprivation. Not going unnoticed,
the leaders of the trip (at the end of both trips) thanked me and asked me to consider a ten week summer internship to Estonia. I am in the process of
now applying for that internship, but without the blessing of...show more content...
Growing up as the oldest child in a home educated family of seven, I have had to learn how to function in and within a team. Splitting up chores
around the house or conversing at meal times are two everyday examples of working within my family unit. Outside of my home, football is the
clearest evidence of team skills in my life. Learning how to communicate with my teammates and lead them was difficult at first because I did not
attend the high school with them. As time went on, I slowly hacked away at their preconceptions about homeschoolers and showed that I was
adequate to lead the team. Despite their prejudices, I tried my best to work with them and eventually we all began to operate as a team. Now, I host
our weekly team meeting, and was voted captain of my football team. Conquering the challenges put in front of me by using team skills is not
exclusive to my high school career, but also will also occur in my daily interactions at

The Importance Of Applying To UCF
When I was six years old I had become extremely ill, and had been admitted into St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa Florida. I was out of school
for a few weeks, and had to be home schooled for months as well. However, this was a difficult time for everyone involved; I excelled in my
academic abilities. I began to read more, and this to me was has been the most important aspect that has influenced me into who I am today. As
well, influenced to my long term academic and career goals. This part of my life has impacted me to be who I am today. One main reason why I chose
to apply to UCF is because this school has been on the top of my list since I began looking at schools. As well, UCF has a Forensics Science Major at
their school. Not many

individual committed to improving the world around me. My dedication to achieving goals, be it academic or in extracurricular activities, has shown
time and time again that I will not give up until I meet the goal, even in the face of adversity. I believe that commitment to goals is a valuable quality I
could use to contribute to the community. I plan to join clubs that UCF offer students to work with and contribute to the UCF community. I believe
working with my fellow peers to be an important and enriching aspect of college life. I am always willing to help someone in need or point them in the

Education has been a big part of my life and I always knew I would be going to college, not only for jobs, but also to grow and learn new things. There
are many reasons I am applying to UCF. One reason is I want to be a part of a large and diverse school. My education has always been within a
Christian education system, where almost everyone shares the same ideals and opinions. I am interested in meeting new people and learning other
people's beliefs and seeing life through another perspective. UCF also provides many extracurricular activities that would make it more available to
try new and exciting things. I am also applying to UCF because it is the school I have been wanting to go to since I was a child. I have lived near the

These, along with my environment, shaped me to be who I am today. My family has always pushed me to do my best in anything I do. Both sides
of my family are very different, they each have their own customs and grew up in completely different environments. Yet, accountability is
something that is a common ground. My family has raised me to be accountable of my actions, whether is it something good or bad, responsibility
is very important. They also have molded me into a person who cares about what I am doing as an individual. This many be through grades and
school or how I interact with people. As important as family influences are the environment plays an important role as well. Within my environment I
have seen people react negatively to those who are different from them, whether it be through birth, religion, or opinion. This could have taught me
how to be the same, but instead it has led me to always be open minded about others. I try to see the world through others perspectives to understand
the reasonings behind their beliefs and opinions. I have also seen within my environment that there is a lack of listening. Everyone wants to say their
piece, but no one wants to hear what others have to say. Because of this I like to help people feel like they are being heard, rather than having to battle
everyone to share their opinions. This also plays on the fact that I enjoy hearing others opinions. Family, culture, and the environment play import roles
in everyone's life. These three things have molded me into the person I am today. I am very grateful for my influences and how they point me into the

Bronfenbrenner's Case Study
Behaviour is children's first language. It is their way to react towards others. As children grow through different ages and stages of development, they
learn to use the social appropriate behaviour. Kay Mathieson describes, "behaviour learning is a phrase which describes learning which takes place and
helps us to understand how we can change, and use our behaviour as well as the impact it can have on situations and relationships" (Mathieson, 2013).
Similarly, Bronfenbrenner has developed an Ecological system model, which encompasses physical and social environment, community, culture,
policies and framework, support servces, procedures and strategies affecting learning behaviour of children, which the essay will discuss in detail to

Behaviour support plans are helpful in identifying the triggers for the problem behaviour. For example; after identifying Ashley's trigger of tantrums,
the teacher can keep her busy in her favourite physical play such as hopscotch, climbing on the frames, obstacle course and dance. Thus, "Behaviour
Support is not therefore solely focused on eliminating challenging behaviour. Rather, it seeks to improve quality of life by understanding why a person
needs to engage in challenging behaviour, and then addressing that need" (DCCSDS, 2015). But the effectiveness of the support plan relies on
identifying the problem and the trigger of the behaviour. Any mistake can cause the failure of behaviour support plan. Then, behaviour support plans
involve a number of people related to the child. It is very important for the teachers and cares to communicate effectively and ethically with the child
and families/carers and provide a support plan to allow for the behaviour to subside. While behaviour support plans are not always easy to follow, there
benefits and effectiveness can not be minimised to support children's

Essay about Suicide
Someone, somewhere, commits suicide every 18 minutes. You might never be able to tell who it will be, it could be the person sitting right next .
Statistics reveal that approximately three million youths, between 12–18, have either thought about or attempted suicide in the past year. More than 1
/3, actually succeeded.
Only in the past two decades, have depression and suicide been taken seriously. Depression is an illness that involves the body, mood and thoughts.
Depression affects the way a person eats and sleeps, feels about themselves, and the way they think of the things around them. It comes as no surprise to
discover that adolescent depression is strongly linked to teen suicide. Adolescent suicide is now responsible for more deaths...show more content...
Adolescence is a stressful experience for all teens. It is a time of physical and social changes producing rapid mood swings from sadness to elation.
Even an emotionally healthy teenager may have the constant fear of not being good enough, not making the varsity team, or getting good grades.
Special situations such as a parents divorce can trigger intense sadness and feelings of wanting to die.
People who usually experience depression, can seem fine. But there are many key signs to show that they are depressed. Such as, change in school
performance, eating habits change, constant unhappiness, low self esteem, guilt, social isolation, inability to concentrate, irritable or angered easily, or
has a severe lost of energy.
For a teen suffering from severe depression, has feelings of worthlessness that dominates their day. Despair is ever present and emotional pain feels
like it will never end. Any situation of anger or disappointment may cause the teen to cross the line from wanting to die, to actually trying to kill
themselves.
Many of them feel pains inside of them, that they can't describe when someone asks them how they feel. They just know that they are sad, or angry, or
upset. Many teenagers will try to communicate their pains through

Why Did I Choose Ucf
Before entering UCF you have to learn about what you want to do in the future and learn about the job opportunities they offer including the clubs

The University of Central Florida is a public school that offers many degrees and career opportunities to the student. History, of the campus, is very
unique. In 1963 governor Farris Bryant signed the Legislative Bill 125, creating the university on the same day it was discovered. On March 19, 1967,

students can choose from three concentrations in the professional and/or liberal arts areas of study. It is designed in a way that provides academic
flexibility and variety on different disciplines. I am looking for a career changed; I would like to teach overseas. My degree program consists in a

Consciousness Essay Example

  • 1. Consciousness Essay example Consciousness To define such a universally experienced phenomena as consciousness may seem on the most superficial level rather unnecessary. Yet a more scientific, and at times philosophical, investigation into the phenomena demands some sort of confirmed interpretation which supercedes any such common understanding. For our purposes the content of consciousness may be deemed those things of which one is aware and thus can report. Thinking, as well, and the higher–level mechanisms associated there in may also be components of this consciousness. While additionally an individuals' conception that the way in which she experiences the world comes from more than just the neuronal activity of her brain can be understood as a contribution...show more content... Certain individuals who have experienced extensive damage to those cortical areas related to sight may report an inability to perceive visual stimuli. In some cases, when presented with a moving spot of light, such individuals who claim to have witnessed no optical occurrence whatsoever will subsequently "guess", well above chance level, the direction of the lights' movement (1). In this phenomena of blindsight it would be the individual's "on–line system" (or "I–function") which provokes the claims that he perceives no stimuli while clearly the "seeing system" has, though on an unconscious level, seen something (1). In an attempt to determine the location of the neuronal correlate of consciousness Crick and Koch conducted research that used images characterized by their bistable precepts. Such visual stimuli (ex: the Serendip – directional arrows) present a constant visual input which results in two possible subject precepts – which tend to alternate in conscious perception. An experimental determination is subsequently made as to which neurons in the brain are attending to the input and which to the precept (whichever is being conceived at that moment). This type of investigative procedure has been preformed on the macaque visual system and results from research published in 1989 by Logothetis indicated that monkeys (non–human primates) and humans perceive such bistable inputs in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. UCF Personal Statement When I was growing up, my parents always encouraged me to do well in school and to go college to create a better and brighter future for myself. Growing up with parents that did not even finish middle school, I always knew that I wanted to go to college, but once I reached my senior year of high school, I felt confused as to what I really wanted to do. I always thought that I somewhat knew what I wanted to study, but once I got to the end of high school, I began wondering what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Therefore, I decided to apply for the COMPASS program at UCF because I like the areas of science and math, so I thought that I could explore some more majors in those areas. As I took MHS 2330, I became more exposed to the various...show more content... I even took health science classes as part of the medical academy three years in a row during high school because I always thought that I wanted to enter the medical field. However, towards the end of my senior year in high school, I wondered to myself if I wanted to go through numerous years of college, medical school, residency, and fellowship that required a copious amount of time and money in order to become a doctor. I think one of the biggest obstacles for me deciding on Biomedical Sciences is the time and money required to finally show results of my decision. With that said, I really enjoyed my time in the health science classes I took throughout my high school years because it was really fun and I liked the idea of helping people. Therefore, that is one of the biggest reasons for my conflict in actually choosing to major in Biomedical Sciences. If I took Biomedical Sciences, I know that it leads me towards a path of becoming a physician, pharmacist, dentist, physician's assistant, and many other medical careers, but I still don't exactly know if it is right for me. Even in the My Plan assessments that I took, it said that health care is number two in the areas that I have a match Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. Ucf Triathlon Training Program ORLANDO– UCF students are constantly searching for different ways to reach their personal goals, and a select group look to bike, swim, and run their way to theirs on April 10 at the Ron Jon Cocoa Beach annual Triathlon. Every spring, the Recreation and Wellness Center hosts a 12–week triathlon training program that gradually prepares participating students to swim .25 miles, bike 12.5 miles and run 3.1 miles in a full sprint. The only requirement is to be a registered UCF student, and it is free to train with the aid of several coaches. This spring, approximately 40 students have committed to the training program and about half of them plan on entering the triathlon, according to Scott Mauro, Marketing and Communications manager at UCF. • 6. UCF Understudy Analysis I trust that I have the right qualities to be an effective understudy at UCF, and help in their attempt to become much further. My own reasoning is that overseeing time astutely will prompt scholarly achievement, a great state of mind, and better associations with others. I endeavor to accomplish the high evaluations I acquire in school. I am a standout amongst the most propelled individuals I know. Stalling might be a well known strategy for a few understudies, however it is not, and will never be, the way I work. I realize that in school, falling route behind and all of a sudden attempting to make it all up in one day won't get you by like it may in secondary school. • 7. What makes me, Hunter Wilkins, an invaluable addition to the UCF community? There are many reasons UCF, and the city of Orlando will benefit from my acceptance. My high energy and sound team skills are defining parts of my plan to excel in college while simultaneously making an impact on my community. Personal energy has continually been a valuable asset throughout my life. During the past two summers, I have travelled to Estonia to teach English with an organization called Josiah Venture. These trips consisted of ten days of hectic excitement leaving only about four hours for sleep. While pushing through, I continually tried to keep the energy high and distract my fellow English teachers from their sleep deprivation. Not going unnoticed, the leaders of the trip (at the end of both trips) thanked me and asked me to consider a ten week summer internship to Estonia. I am in the process of now applying for that internship, but without the blessing of...show more content... Splitting up chores around the house or conversing at meal times are two everyday examples of working within my family unit. Outside of my home, football is the clearest evidence of team skills in my life. Learning how to communicate with my teammates and lead them was difficult at first because I did not attend the high school with them. As time went on, I slowly hacked away at their preconceptions about homeschoolers and showed that I was adequate to lead the team. Despite their prejudices, I tried my best to work with them and eventually we all began to operate as a team. Now, I host our weekly team meeting, and was voted captain of my football team. Conquering the challenges put in front of me by using team skills is not exclusive to my high school career, but also will also occur in my daily interactions at Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. The Importance Of Applying To UCF When I was six years old I had become extremely ill, and had been admitted into St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa Florida. I was out of school for a few weeks, and had to be home schooled for months as well. However, this was a difficult time for everyone involved; I excelled in my academic abilities. I began to read more, and this to me was has been the most important aspect that has influenced me into who I am today. As well, influenced to my long term academic and career goals. This part of my life has impacted me to be who I am today. One main reason why I chose to apply to UCF is because this school has been on the top of my list since I began looking at schools. I am a dedicated, caring individual committed to improving the world around me. My dedication to achieving goals, be it academic or in extracurricular activities, has shown time and time again that I will not give up until I meet the goal, even in the face of adversity. I believe that commitment to goals is a valuable quality I could use to contribute to the community. I plan to join clubs that UCF offer students to work with and contribute to the UCF community. • 10. Sample UCF Research Paper Education has been a big part of my life and I always knew I would be going to college, not only for jobs, but also to grow and learn new things. There are many reasons I am applying to UCF. One reason is I want to be a part of a large and diverse school. My education has always been within a Christian education system, where almost everyone shares the same ideals and opinions. I am interested in meeting new people and learning other people's beliefs and seeing life through another perspective. These, along with my environment, shaped me to be who I am today. My family has always pushed me to do my best in anything I do. Both sides of my family are very different, they each have their own customs and grew up in completely different environments. Yet, accountability is something that is a common ground. My family has raised me to be accountable of my actions, whether is it something good or bad, responsibility is very important. They also have molded me into a person who cares about what I am doing as an individual. This many be through grades and school or how I interact with people. As important as family influences are the environment plays an important role as well. Within my environment I have seen people react negatively to those who are different from them, whether it be through birth, religion, or opinion. This could have taught me how to be the same, but instead it has led me to always be open minded about others. I try to see the world through others perspectives to understand the reasonings behind their beliefs and opinions. I have also seen within my environment that there is a lack of listening. Everyone wants to say their piece, but no one wants to hear what others have to say. Because of this I like to help people feel like they are being heard, rather than having to battle everyone to share their opinions. This also plays on the fact that I enjoy hearing others opinions. Family, culture, and the environment play import roles in everyone's life. These three things have molded me into the person I am today. I am very grateful for my influences and how they point me into the right Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Bronfenbrenner's Case Study Behaviour is children's first language. It is their way to react towards others. As children grow through different ages and stages of development, they learn to use the social appropriate behaviour. Kay Mathieson describes, "behaviour learning is a phrase which describes learning which takes place and helps us to understand how we can change, and use our behaviour as well as the impact it can have on situations and relationships" (Mathieson, 2013). Similarly, Bronfenbrenner has developed an Ecological system model, which encompasses physical and social environment, community, culture, policies and framework, support servces, procedures and strategies affecting learning behaviour of children, which the essay will discuss in detail to understand...show more content... Behaviour support plans are helpful in identifying the triggers for the problem behaviour. For example; after identifying Ashley's trigger of tantrums, the teacher can keep her busy in her favourite physical play such as hopscotch, climbing on the frames, obstacle course and dance. Thus, "Behaviour Support is not therefore solely focused on eliminating challenging behaviour. Rather, it seeks to improve quality of life by understanding why a person needs to engage in challenging behaviour, and then addressing that need" (DCCSDS, 2015). But the effectiveness of the support plan relies on identifying the problem and the trigger of the behaviour. Any mistake can cause the failure of behaviour support plan. Then, behaviour support plans involve a number of people related to the child. It is very important for the teachers and cares to communicate effectively and ethically with the child and families/carers and provide a support plan to allow for the behaviour to subside. While behaviour support plans are not always easy to follow, there benefits and effectiveness can not be minimised to support children's Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Statistics reveal that approximately three million youths, between 12–18, have either thought about or attempted suicide in the past year. More than 1 /3, actually succeeded. Only in the past two decades, have depression and suicide been taken seriously. Depression is an illness that involves the body, mood and thoughts.
