This document summarizes how the University of Miami Libraries connected various discovery and management systems to enhance access to their special collections. It discusses how they implemented Aeon software to manage special collection requests online. This streamlined the request process and allowed patrons to search the catalog, finding aids, and digital collections to discover and request items. It also describes how they integrated Aeon with systems like Archon, CONTENTdm, Summon, and Omeka to auto-populate request forms. This improved the discoverability of hidden collections and increased usage of their special collections.
Evaluating and Selecting Library Services PlatformNEWmahongzn
This document summarizes the process undertaken by Loyola University Chicago Libraries to evaluate and select a new library services platform (LSP). An exploratory committee was formed to research available options and structure a selection process. The committee educated staff on LSPs, identified top candidates, developed an RFP, and had vendors do on-site demonstrations using prepared scripts. Feedback was gathered from staff. The committee also interviewed other libraries using the candidate LSPs. A report was produced highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the two finalist platforms - OCLC's WMS/WorldCat Discovery and Ex Libris's Alma/Primo - based on technical services, public services, discovery and more. Loyola ultimately selected Alma/

Jesus performed two miracles. First, he healed Simon Peter's mother-in-law of a high fever by bending over her and rebuking the fever. She was then able to get up and serve them. Second, during the evening, Jesus healed many people of various illnesses and cast out demons, though he prevented the demons from proclaiming him as the Messiah due to their evil intent. The miracles demonstrated Jesus' power to heal sickness and cast out evil spirits.

Paper presented at the 12th International Conference on Digital Preservation, November 2-6, 2015. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Abstract:
This paper describes how the E-ARK project (European Archival Records and Knowledge Preservation) aims to develop an
overarching methodology for curating digital assets. This methodology must address business needs and operational issues, proposing a technical wall-to-wall reference implementation for the core OAIS flow – Ingest, Archival Storage and Access. The focal point of the paper is the Access part of the OAIS flow. The paper first lays out the access vision of the E-ARK project, and secondly describes the method employed to enable information processing and to pin-point the functional and non-functional requirements. These requirements will allow the E-ARK project to create a standardized format for the Dissemination Information Package (DIP), and to develop the access tools that will process this format. The paper then proceeds to describe the actual DIP format before detailing what the access solution will look like, which tools will be developed and, not least, why the E-ARK Access system will be used and work.

This document describes Ahmed AlSum's PhD defense from February 2014 at Old Dominion University. It discusses his proposal for a Web Archive Services Framework to provide tighter integration between past and present web content. The framework includes several proposed services - a Content Service to access archived web pages, a Metadata Service to retrieve metadata like page titles and thumbnails, a URI Service to handle URI lookups across archives using HTTP redirection, and an overarching Archive Service. The goal is to develop standardized APIs and services to make archived web content more programmatically accessible and help researchers analyze trends over time.
Event: LIANZA Otago Southland Weekend School, 14 February 2016 in Oamarau
Tweet about presentation: "How do libraries maintaining, preserving & adding value to collections relate to Digital Curation? What's a digital object?" #HeartofLibs
Abstract
In this presentation I will outline the University of Otago Library strategy for building staff capacity around (a) the curation of our digital objects, (b) the development of a Digital Asset Management System (DAMS), and (c) the establishment of a Curation Framework policy. With attention shifting from access (the usual focus of digital collection requirements) to curation, the University of Otago Library is now investing in developing a DAMS to curate digital objects using Fedora Commons / Islandora software, rather than other software which is currently in use (e.g. DSpace and Omeka).
The biggest challenges with establishing this type of digital collection are not technical. Instead key challenges include establishing robust business procedures, adhering to international standards, and ensuring staff across the Library become skilled in areas such as the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) reference model. The pilot (Marsden Online Archive https://marsdenarchive.otago.ac.nz/ repository) made accessible the Church Missionary Society letters and journals of the Reverend Samuel Marsden and other nineteenth century missionaries to support the Digital Humanities. The next stage is to extend Fedora Commons / Islandora to curate further unique Library collections.

The U of Miami Libraries system is comprised of :
the Otto G. Richter Library, serving as the main library with administrative offices and housing the majority of the library’s collections;
4 subject-based branch libraries: Architecture; Business; Marine Science; and Music
and an off-site storage facility.
The Law & Medical Libraries are administered separately with separate ILS and discovery tools.
The UML hold over 3 million volumes; We have an active digitization program with 110 distinct digital collections {8 restricted] containing over 1,064,732 objects, with 143,324 publically accessible.
We currently have 140 staff, 35 of which are librarians.
Here are our solutions: Aeon ,special collection management software has been implemented as core management system. Archon, an open source repository software has been adopted as web based search tool for EAD Finding Aids. We used CONTENTdm as our digital collections management tool. We also implemented Summon, Web-scale discovery tool. At today’s presentation, we can explore how we build the connections for these systems to explore the discoverability and usage of our special collections.
This slide shows the connections between these web based search interface and Aeon management software. Users can search Archon, CONTENTdm, Library Catalog and Summon for the special collection items and then place a request for a specific request there. The request will be automatically routed into the Aeon system. You might noticed the connection between Library Catalog and Aeon are two way connections. We have been able to ingest the content in these different repositories into Summon and provided user one single unified search, and then the same connection there can leads the request to Aeon system.
Overview of Aeon. What is Aeon. Who developed this tool. What’s features and How we use it.
Track submitted requests. Retain request history.
Aeon administration client provide interface to configure OpenURL fields.
Search and browse archival finding aids across five repositories and request rare materials for research.
ArchivesSpace is a Mellon-funded project that represents a merger/integration of the Archivist Toolkit and Archon platforms
The connection between Archon and Aeon. User can request finding aids after searching Archon.
The bibliographic information auto populated into Aeon request form. User doesn’t need to fill in information themselves.
We plan to contribute the Aeon linking script back to the Omeka development community
General function code used for multiple systems
We basically use the same approach for CONTENTdm, Archon, and Omeka: create a form for the request, send the request
There are lots of potentials/features can be adopted to extend Aeon usage within library. We have been testing/investigating a couple of options. These are examples.
