InVision is a collaborative design company that’s growing into Golang. That being said, when we started doing web services, we looked at using one of the middleware libraries out there such as Alice and Negroni. We found them all interesting but decided to tackle it on our own. As we did that we realized that our library was pretty cool so we broke it out and open sourced it as Rye. I’ll present on the approach we took and some of the benefits of using Rye including integration with Statsd, Context and custom middleware handlers we’ve added such as CIDR validation and JWT validation.
It’s all about REST in today’s world. Every service you look at, people are providing a REST API for it. Surprisingly, very few of these API’s are even REST, if we’re talking about REST as in a system that abides by a series of constraints making it RESTful. But the positive note is that it has brought to light the power of HTTP as an application protocol, something very often undervalued and misunderstood, even today.

You’ll learn how to find your way around the Usergrid code base, how the code for the Stack, Portal and SDKs and how to use the test infrastructure to test your changes to Usergrid. You’ll learn the Usergrid contributor workflow, how the project uses JIRA and Github to manage change and how to contribute your changes to the project. The session will also cover the Usergrid roadmap and what the community is currently working on.
Connexion is an open source API first REST framework for Python, built on top of Flask and based on OpenAPI/Swagger, targeted for microservice development. Connexion automagically handles request routing, oauth2 security, request validation and response serialization based on an OpenAPI 2.0 Specification file in YAML, so you don’t have to care about boilerplate anymore.
Because it is based on Flask it supports everything that Flask does, including deployment options and extensions.
At Zalando we’ve adopted “API First” as one of our key engineering principles, to ensure our API are robust, consistent, general and
abstracted from specific implementation and use cases. But when we tried to implement this principle for the first time we were faced with the lack of a python framework to achieve it in a easy fashion - there were several frameworks that produce a swagger definition from the
implementation but none that do it the other way around - so we decided to fill that gap.
