• EMILE DURKHEIM
-was the first ever professor
of Sociology.
-argued that society are constrained by social
facts that includes beliefs, moral codes, and
basic norms and values which are passed from
one generation to the next and shared by
individuals who make up a society.

• TALCOTT PARSONS
-best know for his social action
and structural functionalism.
-views that values system is important for
keeping order in the society as individual acts
in ways.
 CONSENSUS THEORISTS is concerned with the
maintenance or continuation of social order in
society, in relation to accepted norms, values,
rules and regulations as widely accepted or
collectively by the society or with a particular
society itself.
 CONFLICT THEORISTS are interested in how
society’s institutions-the family, government,
religion, education, and the media-may help to
maintain the privileges of some groups and keep
others in a subservient position.
