Fostering a UX Culture Across Campus
User experience (UX) is a multidisciplinary venture that encompasses research, design, content, architecture, engineering, and systems. At the University of Arizona, an informal community of practice emerged in 2017 called “UX@UA” to support cross-departmental learning and sharing of resources. This community now includes over 400 students, faculty, and staff who are studying, teaching, and doing UX. Members of the UX@UA leadership team are from the Libraries, Department of English, Eller College of Management, and Digital Learning. In addition to monthly meetup events for sharing knowledge and networking, the group is supporting campus initiatives such as lightweight user testing through a “Tiny Cafe,” a shared participant pool, a drop-in UX consulting hour, a toolkit of reusable templates, and a UX/UI testing zone in the library. In this talk, you will learn how we are building capacity, breaking down silos, and fostering user-centered thinking and practices campus-wide.

Protein databases contain over 40,000 protein structures providing insights into three-dimensional protein structures, interactions between protein chains, and prediction of primary sequence structures. A protein's three-dimensional structure can be used to predict its function by identifying structural similarities to other known proteins.
Dermatoscopy using multi layer perceptron, convolution neural network
Shamik Tiwari proposes using deep learning techniques like Capsule networks to analyze dermatoscopy images and detect melanoma. Dermatoscopy examines skin lesions using imaging to diagnose conditions like melanoma. Early detection of melanoma can improve survival rates and quality of life. Traditional image recognition requires handcrafted feature extraction, but deep learning methods can overcome this. Tiwari's Capsule network approach for melanoma recognition achieved a classification accuracy of 98.9%, outperforming multi-layer perceptron and convolution networks.
Covid 19 diagnosis using x-ray images and deep learning
Researchers developed a convolutional neural network (CNN) model to classify chest X-ray images into three classes: positive for COVID-19, normal, or viral pneumonia. The model was trained on these image sets and achieved 94% accuracy on the training data and 96% on the validation data. When tested, the model achieved 94% accuracy in classifying chest X-ray images into the three classes. The goal was to create a faster and less complex model than previous approaches for detecting COVID-19 in chest images using artificial intelligence.
Convolutional capsule network for covid 19 detection
This document proposes a convolutional capsule network called VGG-CapsNet to diagnose COVID-19 using chest X-ray images. Convolutional neural networks currently used for COVID-19 detection have limitations related to view-invariance and information loss during downsampling. VGG-CapsNet aims to address these issues by using a capsule network architecture. In simulations, VGG-CapsNet achieved 97% accuracy for COVID-19 vs. non-COVID-19 classification and 92% accuracy for COVID-19 vs. normal vs. viral pneumonia classification, outperforming a CNN-CapsNet model. The proposed VGG-CapsNet system is available online and can help detect COVID-19 in the body through chest radiographic images
An ensemble deep neural network
An ensemble deep neural network model was proposed to detect onion-routed traffic to improve cloud security. The model uses a combination of convolutional and recurrent neural networks along with transfer learning. It was able to detect Tor traffic with over 97% accuracy, outperforming existing methods. This helps cloud providers better monitor network traffic and identify potential threats.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on Blockchain
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.
