2. What is a concrete poem?
A concrete poem is a poem that takes the shape of its topic. It is an artistic
expression of poetry where the words paint a picture. The picture aids in the
meaning of the poem and may even add beauty.
The following are my examples of concrete poetry that I wrote just for this class. We
may as well take our time and be creative, since we are home and have plenty of
time.
3. “Smile” by Kimberly Torregano
This poem is about the beauty of the everyday
smile that people share all the time. The reasons
for a smile are numerous: a greeting, a subtle
laugh, happiness, and just plain bliss.
What does a smile make you think of?
Read my poem. Do you agree? Write about it or
include it in your response.

4. “Sunny Days” by Kimberly Torregano
This poem is about one of my most favorite
things on earth - sunny days.
I like how sunny days create endless
possibilities. The warmth of the sun gives birth
to new growth that gives the habitants of the
earth many things: food, plants, oxygen, paper,
wood for building, warm weather for outside
activities in shorts and flip flops, or an excuse to
get lost in the garden, or to lay on the lawn and
take a nap.
Once again, the possibilities are endless.
5. The magic is in the details!!
Every corner has a small detail or word or
phrases that express the meaning of a sunny
day.
Can you find them?
6. More details!
There are details in the center of the paper and
at the bottom.
I took a liberty with this poetic genre. Concrete
poems don’t usually include illustrations. The
poem is usually created with words and words
alone.
I took the liberty to add flowers, grass, and
yellow rays that denote the heat of the sun and
the new growth that is a result of warm weather.
7. In conclusion . . .
What is your favorite topic?
Maybe you have several!
Think hard.
Just take your time and think about things and people that you love.
I know you can create an unforgettable concrete poem.
Give it your best shot.
Get ready.
