This study compared outcomes of 50 patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) to 50 patients who underwent laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) over 1 year. At 6 months, excess weight loss was higher after LSG (50.8% vs 41.7%), but comparable at 1 year (76.1% vs 62.2%). Resolution of comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension was also comparable. While early diabetes resolution was better with LRYGB, results matched at 1 year. Gastroesophageal reflux increased slightly with LSG (5% pre-op to 9% at 1 year). Complication rates were low and similar between groups
