I really loved working with dream flags these past two semesters. Now that I am leaving, I put together a 20 page "Dream Flags 101" to pass onto the teach who will be taking over the project when I return to San Diego.
I am posting it here in case other teachers may find it helpful. It is still a work in progress as I need to add links and make a few edits, so if you find any mistakes, please let me know.

Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.

Levelwise PageRank with Loop-Based Dead End Handling Strategy : SHORT REPORT ...Subhajit Sahu
Abstract — Levelwise PageRank is an alternative method of PageRank computation which decomposes the input graph into a directed acyclic block-graph of strongly connected components, and processes them in topological order, one level at a time. This enables calculation for ranks in a distributed fashion without per-iteration communication, unlike the standard method where all vertices are processed in each iteration. It however comes with a precondition of the absence of dead ends in the input graph. Here, the native non-distributed performance of Levelwise PageRank was compared against Monolithic PageRank on a CPU as well as a GPU. To ensure a fair comparison, Monolithic PageRank was also performed on a graph where vertices were split by components. Results indicate that Levelwise PageRank is about as fast as Monolithic PageRank on the CPU, but quite a bit slower on the GPU. Slowdown on the GPU is likely caused by a large submission of small workloads, and expected to be non-issue when the computation is performed on massive graphs.

Compare horror movie
1. Class assignment : Compare / Contrast Essay
The two horror films that I want to compare are “Curse of Chucky”
and “Annabelle”.
“Curse of Chucky” is a 2013 American horror straight-to-video movie
written and directed by Don Mancini, who created the franchise and
has written all the films to date. It is the sixth instalment in the
Child’s Play franchise. “Curse of Chucky” returns to the franchise’s
source material and bringing back the straightforward horror elements
found in the original three Child’s Play films. And by-the-way,
“Annabelle” is a 2014 American supernatural horror film directed by
John R. Leonetti, produced by James Wan, and written by Gray
Dauberman. It is both a prequel to and spin-off of “The Conjuring”
and was inspired by the real doll Annabelle.
“Curse of Chucky” stars Brad Dourif as Chucky, as well as Fiona
Dourif, Danielle Bisutti, A Martinez and Brennan Elliott. This film
marks the return of Andy Barclay, the franchise’s original protagonist
in the first three films. Alex Vincent, who originally played Barclay in
Child’s Play and Child’s Play 2, reprises his role. “Annabelle” stars
Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, and Alfre Woodard.
“Curse of Chucky” debuted via VOD, September 24, 2013, and was
followed by a DVD and Blu-ray Disc release, October 8, 2013, in the
United States. The film was also turned into a scare zone for 2013’s
annual Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood and
Orlando theme parks. “Annabelle” was released worldwide on
October 3, 2014. The Film was premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre
in Hollywood, Los Angeles, United States, on September 29, 2014.
The story of “Curse of Chucky” is set 25 years after Child’s Play and
several years after the events depicted in Seed of Chucky, the Chucky
doll which was voiced by Brad Dourif was arrives in the mail of the
2. family home of paraplegic Nica Pierce which was cast by Fiona
Dourif and her mother, Sarah. When the doll arrives at her house,
Nica does not give it much thought, but later that night Sarah is found
dead from a stab wound and her death proclaimed a suicide.
The next day, Nica’s older sister Brad, cast by Danielle Bisutti arrives,
accompanied by her husband lan, their 6 years old daughter Alice,
live-in nanny Jill and Father Frank, a priest. Nica’s niece Alice finds
Chucky and keeps him. Nica and Alice cook chili for dinner, and
Chucky Secretly pours rat poison into one of the bowls. Father Frank
eats the poison, and after leaving the house, is beheaded in a fatal car
crash.
After everyone else has gone to their rooms to sleep, Nica attempts to
track down the origins of the Chucky doll. She looks up “Chuck Doll
Evidence” on the internet, where she finds news articles of the
unsolved Chucky murders and the doll’s link to dead serial killer
Charles Lee Ray. Chucky sneaks out of Alice’s bed and kills Jill by
kicking a bucket of rain water over onto the ground’s power outlets.
Jill is electrocuted to death, which also causes a blackout. Brab gets
up to check on Alice, and finds Chucky sitting on the stairs that lead
to the attic. Thinking that Alice is in the attic, Bard goes up to look for
her daughter, but she is killed by Chucky with a kitchen knife. With
the elevator unusable due to the blackout, Nica crawls up the stairs to
the first floor. Bard is already dead by the time she gets there, and
Chucky reveals himself to Nica. Nica wakes up lan, who takes Nica to
the garage before going back into the house to find Alice.
And the story of “Annabelle” is about a haunted doll, called
Annabelle.
In 1967, John and Mia Form live in Santa Monicaand are expecting
their first child. John gives her a doll that she has been trying to find.
Mia loves it and puts it with the rest of her doll collection. At night,
Mia hears a murder occurring at their neighbors', the Higginses'.
3. When Mia returns home and calls the police as her husband told her
to do, she is attacked by a woman holding the doll and a male
accomplice. John and the police arrive and kill the man while the
woman kills herself. She leaves a bloody symbol drawn on the wall
and a drop of her blood falls on the face of the doll in her arms. A
news report shows that the assailants were Annabelle Higgins and her
boyfriend. They had murdered her parents and are said to have been
part of the Disciples of the Ram, a satanic cult. Since Annabelle was
holding the doll while dying, Mia asks John to throw it away. Later,
after a fire caused by the doll, Mia trips over escaping from the fire
and goes into labor, Mia gives birth to a healthy baby girl named Leah.
The family moves into a new apartment, in Pasadena. Mia unpacks
her dolls and finds the one which they had thought discarded. More
strange activity plagues Mia and her new baby. She contacts the
detective, who informs her of Annabelle and her boyfriend's history in
a cult that seeks to summon a demon by claiming a soul. Mia goes to
a bookstore run by a woman named Evelyn and determines from a
book that the presence haunting her wants Leah's soul. Evelyn tells
Mia that she had a daughter named Ruby that was around Mia's age
when she died in a car accident caused by Evelyn. She was so
distraught and guilt-ridden that she attempted suicide. However, she
claims to have heard Ruby's voice telling her it wasn't her time.

Six months later, the Forms have moved on and have not seen
Annabelle since then. Elsewhere, the mother of one of the girls in the
opening scene purchases Annabelle as a gift for her child. The ending
text states that the real Annabelle doll resides in a case in Ed and
Lorraine Warren's museum and that it is blessed by a priest twice a
month to keep the public safe from the evil that still resides in the doll.
The final shot shows the camera linger on Annabelle, as if she'll make
a move before the screen cuts to black.
In conclusion, “Curse of Chucky” and “Annabelle” are very horror
and successful horror films. By this assignment I had learned a lot of
things, and I also get to know about so much Hollywood’s stars.
