2. Comparatives are used to compare:
two people, animals or things.
Superlatives are used to compare more than
two people, animals or things.
3. One syllable adjectives + er / the est:
Examples:
small = smaller = the smallest
young = younger = the youngest
fast = faster = the fastest
The red car is smaller than the black one.
4. If the adjective has a CVC (consonant – vowell –
consonat) pattern, double the consonant and add –
er/ the est.
Examples:
wet = wetter = the wettest
big = bigger = the biggest
sad = sadder = the saddest
The red house is bigger than the green one.
5. Two syllable adjectives ending in Y
change the Y to I and add –er/ the est
Examples:
pretty = prettier = the prettiest
happy = happier = the happiest
busy = busier = the busiest
The girl is happier than the boy.
6. Adjectives or adverbs with two or more syllables (not
ending in Y. Use more/ the most
Examples:
famous = more famous =the most famous
interesting = more interesting=the most interesting.
carefully = more carefully= the most carefully
Abraham Lincoln is more famous than Obama
7. These are the irregular words
Examples: good = better
good = better = the best
bad = worse = the worst
far = farther (further) = the farthest (furthest)
The winter in Ecuador is worse than in France.
