Proofreading refers to the ‘polishing’ of documents, namely the correcting of poor grammar, spelling and punctuation. Who needs proofreading... and why would I need it? Anybody who wants to create flawless English documents, whether in a personal or professional capacity, would benefit from having a professional proofreader go through their work. A proofreader does more than look for spelling mistakes. A proofreader will look for (and fix) poor grammar and punctuation usage, typographical mistakes, incorrect or inconsistent tenses and much, much more. A proofreader ensures that one’s work is clear, correct, comprehensible and consistent, while preserving the original authorship. How much does it cost? Our services are offered in three currencies (GBP, $US and ZAR), and we charge per page, with a page being calculated as 350 words. We also offer economical company retainers, charged on an hourly basis. Any number of people at a particular company may use our services according to the retainer package specifications. Our rates are as follows: £1.75/page $2.75/page ZAR25/page The proofreading process Pragmatics Writing Lab keeps things simple for our clients. Clients email us the document/s that they want us to proofread. When we return the proofread documents, we provide the client with two versions – a final version and a ‘marked’ version. The ‘marked’ version allows the client to see all amendments and to go through them at their leisure. We work with many file types, including PDF.
