• Integration of mental health services with
primary health care started in between 1970 to
1980s. Pioneer countries were Sudan & Kenya.
• Rest of the countries who followed the pattern
were Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda, Botswana,
Senegal, South Africa & Tunisia.

• Uneven bed ratio.
• Interrupted and inadequate supply of funds.
• Few general practitioners with training of Psychiatry are operating in
PHCs.
• Shortage of psychotropic drugs.
