Fifty-seven adult individuals within two-age groups were recruited for this study and were randomly allocated into one of three alcohol treatment groups – a control where the subjects remain sober during the entire study, a moderate group were the subject is supplied alcohol but is limited in such a way that their blood alcohol content (BAC) remains under the legal limit to drive (BAC of 0.08) and a group that received a high amount of alcohol to which their BAC may exceed the legal limit for driving. Each subject was trained on a video game system and their reaction time (in milliseconds) to a visual stimulus was recorded at 7 time points 30 minutes apart (labeled T0=0, T1=30, T2=60 and so on). At time point T0, all subjects were sober and those in one of the alcohol consumption groups began drinking after the first measured reaction time (controlled within the specifications outlined). The researcher is interested in determining the influence alcohol and age (namely, is reaction time different for those in the 20s versus 30s) has on reaction times.

The client’s clinical status has improved since admission, with decreased oxygen requirements. However, he is not tolerating anything PO at this time and complains of nausea and vomiting. The client’s height is 5’8” and he weighs 89 kg. The only known drug allergy is PCN which results in a rash.
Analysis
The client in this scenario is responding well to the current antibiotic therapy, as evidence by a drop in WBC count from 18.2 upon admission to 14.6 currently (normal range is between 5.0 and 10). It is also pleasing that the client’s O2 saturation is now 92% on room air alone, compared to 90% while requiring 4L of supplemental oxygen upon admission. Overall, the client’s lab results are not significantly concerning. Neutrophil (normal range 40-60%) and band (normal range 0.0-03%) percentages are slightly elevated as expected given the infectious process (NIH, 2020). Aside from an elevated WBC count that is trending down, a marginally elevated blood glucose, and a HCO3 elevated eight points above the normal limit, the other lab results are within the normal ranges of a healthy adult male (Farinde, 2019). The issues of concern in this client case are the client’s inability to tolerate a diet due to nausea and vomiting, elevated temperature, and continuing antibiotics to treat the pneumonia.
Treatment Considerations
According to Donovan (2019), the client’s empiric antibiotic regime is consistent with what is recommended by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). Initial empiric antimicrobial treatment should be initiated until laboratory results can be obtained to guide more specific therapy. Also, a combination of a beta-lactam (ceftriaxone 1 g IV q24h or cefotaxime 1 g IV q8h or ceftaroline 600 mg IV q12h) plus azithromycin 500 mg IV q24h is consistent with IDSA guidelines for a client with comorbidities such as COPD and diab.

Pragmatism is defined as a philosophical approach in which experience is the fundamental concept. Fifty-seven adult individuals within two-age groups were recruited for this study and were randomly allocated into one of three alcohol treatment groups – a control where the subjects remain sober during the entire study, a moderate group were the subject is supplied alcohol but is limited in such a way that their blood alcohol content (BAC) remains under the legal limit to drive (BAC of 0.08) and a group that received a high amount of alcohol to which their BAC may exceed the legal limit for driving. Each subject was trained on a video game system and their reaction time (in milliseconds) to a visual stimulus was recorded at 7 time points 30 minutes apart (labeled T0=0, T1=30, T2=60 and so on). At time point T0, all subjects were sober and those in one of the alcohol consumption groups began drinking after the first measured reaction time (controlled within the specifications outlined). The researcher is interested in determining the influence alcohol and age (namely, is reaction time different for those in the 20s versus 30s) has on reaction times.

Community activism is defined as actions through which organizations, groups and individual work together to promote economic, social, cultural policies and practice changes. Basically, the key goal of community activism is to endorse actions that decrease health disparities, improve living conditions and enhance community environments. Nowadays, advanced nurse practitioners engage in cooperative and nonstop actions to remove barriers (e.g., social, political, economic barriers, etc.) and change underlying structures aimed to improve the lives of patients subjected to unequal and discriminatory conditions (e.g., minorities groups, LGBTQs, etc.) (Maryland & Gonzalez, 2012).
The key concepts associated with community activism include social justice, praxis, empowerment, critical reflection and consciousness raising. Consciousness raising is a key concept in which is involves the presentation of pertinent information in order to engage with others in critical reflection. Critical reflection is a key concept through which community activists activate possible collective actions and transformations. On the other hand, praxis is a decisive reflective action derived of individual and collective consciousness and theories to create commitment in order to build a justice society (Murphy, 2018).
In addition, empowerment is another key concept that entails processes and results of the implemented transformational actions through which people, communities and organizations increase their control and mastery within political, social and economic frameworks in order to enhance a better quality of life. On the other hand, social justice is a fundamental concept which involves philosophical, public health and political elements embedded in the epitome of human rights and social fairness and impartiality (Murphy, 2018).
Recent data estimates that approximately 38 millions of people are smokers in the United States. Basically, Big Tobacco targets communities such as lower-income ones and creates products which include more addictive substances. These are the key reasons why the prevalence of smokers is higher, particularly among individuals with lower incomes. Therefore, it is crucial that nurses engage in community activism to halt or decrease the negative health impact from Big Tobacco. Some of the actions nurses can implement include the promotion of smoking cessation, education about the negative effects of smoking, increase their understanding of the tobacco industry, and increase awareness about the relationship between smoking and chronic medical conditions such as COPD, cancer, aortic aneurisms, etc. (Savell, Gilmore & Fooks, 2014).
In addition, nurses can alert patients to watch out for deceptions and lies used by these companies to prevent them from quitting. Moreover, nurses must alert smokers the multiple strategies these companies implement to increase their addiction, for instance; several studi.

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a common group of infectious diseases that are responsible for significant global health and economic burden. CAP affects approximately 5.5/1000 people annually, and is a leading cause of hospital admissions, morbidity, and mortality in developed countries (especially for older people). Among all patients with CAP, those aged 65 or older account for about one-third, but they account for more than half of all health costs due to this disease. COPD is one of the most common comorbidities in patients with CAP, characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms. COPD was the third-most common cause of death in 2008, and the morbidity from COPD is projected to increase by 2020 (Liu, Han, & Liu, 2018).
Brief Summary of Client Case
Client HH is a 68 year-old male admitted with a diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia for the past 3 days. This client’s medical HX includes COPD, HTN, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. Mr. HH is on day three of two empiric antibiotics (ceftriaxone 1 g IV daily and azithromycin 500 mg IV daily). The client’s clinical status has improved since admission, with decreased oxygen requirements. However, he is not tolerating anything PO at this time and complains of nausea and vomiting. The client’s height is 5’8” and he weighs 89 kg. The only known drug allergy is PCN which results in a rash.
Analysis
The client in this scenario is responding well to the current antibiotic therapy, as evidence by a drop in WBC count from 18.2 upon admission to 14.6 currently (normal range is between 5.0 and 10). It is also pleasing that the client’s O2 saturation is now 92% on room air alone, compared to 90% while requiring 4L of supplemental oxygen upon admission. Overall, the client’s lab results are not significantly concerning. Neutrophil (normal range 40-60%) and band (normal range 0.0-03%) percentages are slightly elevated as expected given the infectious process (NIH, 2020). Aside from an elevated WBC count that is trending down, a marginally elevated blood glucose, and a HCO3 elevated eight points above the normal limit, the other lab results are within the normal ranges of a healthy adult male (Farinde, 2019). The issues of concern in this client case are the client’s inability to tolerate a diet due to nausea and vomiting, elevated temperature, and continuing antibiotics to treat the pneumonia.
Treatment Considerations
According to Donovan (2019), the client’s empiric antibiotic regime is consistent with what is recommended by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). Initial empiric antimicrobial treatment should be initiated until laboratory results can be obtained to guide more specific therapy. Also, a combination of a beta-lactam (ceftriaxone 1 g IV q24h or cefotaxime 1 g IV q8h or ceftaroline 600 mg IV q12h) plus azithromycin 500 mg IV q24h is consistent with IDSA guidelines for a client with comorbidities such as COPD and diab.

The impact of Hurricane Katrina destroyed the Communications and power infrastructure within the New Orleans metropolitan region, leaving emergency response personnel and the public with little capacity to exchange information vital for coordinating response actions. The loss of Communications and power proved especially damaging, given the size of the geo-graphic region and the number of people affected. The authors used content analysis of news reports to identify the network of organizations that emerged in response to Hurricane Katrina, and network analysis to examine patterns of interaction among the organizations. The patterns reveal significant asymmetry in information among organizations at different levels of authority and responsibility in the disaster response system, a condition that contributed to the collapse of coordination in disaster operations. Conversely, well-designed communications and information infrastructure can contribute significantly to the resilience of communities exposed to recurring risk(Comfort, 2005)

In Entergy’s headquarters city, New Orleans, the damage was catastrophic. Thousands were dead or missing; tens of thousands were homeless. Electrical power was virtually nonexistent; the gas distribution system was inundated with corrosive saltwater; 1,500 displaced Entergy employees were scattered across the nation - from Los Angeles to Boston - after the company’s evacuation on August 27. It was hard to know where to begin.
In the hours after the winds subsided and the scope of the damage became clear, Entergy faced multiple challenges. The company had to assemble the largest restoration workforce in its history to safely begin repairing the worst damage ever incurred to its system. To do this, Entergy had to address the logistical needs of its workers, providing a constant supply of food, water, and medication. It had to find shelter for the workforce, many of whom had lost homes. Entergy improvised a system to get workers their paychecks and to communicate with them in the absence of cell service, computers, and other traditional channels. In addition to meeting these basic human needs, Entergy needed to continue to manage its business, despite the fact that its corporate headquarters was shut down.
