2.  People interact best when they feel comfortable
with their surroundings, are at easy with and feel
respected by those they are communicating with.
 Busy hospital wards are very difficult
environments for effective communication barrier

 Good communication within the healthcare team is
essential in order to ensure continuity of care and
effective treatment for patient. Moreover, poor
communication between professional staff has been
identified as on underlying factor for failed
communication with patient. For example, a patient
may be given different information regarding their
condition by different member of the heathcare team

 Effective communication with other heath profession
may increase patient understanding of treatment,
improve compliance and in some cases, lead to
improved health.
 Maintain therapeutic relationship.
 Use principles of effective communication and avoid
barriers of communication.
 Respect their socio- cultural background.
 Follow organization policy.

6. Communicating with physician
 To communicate effectively, nurse must be
comfortable with their role on the health care team
and confident in their unique knowledge and able to
explain patient condition using their knowledge.
 Be prepared with specific questions or facts and
recommendations when initiating a patient care
related conversation with physician.

 Choose the right time and place for the conversation.
 Never interrupt a physician-patient interaction, except
in life threatening situation.
 Communication between doctors and nurse to faster
patient recovery, shorter hospital stays, increased
patient satisfaction, fewer adverse events, and
improved patient outcomes.

9. Communicating with pharmacist
 Nurse and Pharmacists must treat one another with
respect, both professional must realize that they share
the same goal (eg, optimal patient care) and are on the
same patient care team.
 An added barrier to effective nurse pharmacist
communication is the use of the telephone as the
primary means of communication.

10.  A nurse can give valuable information to pharmacist
regarding patient condition which would aid a
pharmacist in optimizing therapeutic plan as per
patient needs.
 Communication should be clear to the point, and
timely.
 Many hospital pharmacist use floor stock system to
distribute medication to the nursing stations in all
patient care areas.

12. Nurse- Nurse communication
 Nursing is a team effort, and we have to build good
relationships with fellow nurses.
 During nursing shift changes and other hand over of
clear and concise communication is require.
 Make sure you give and receive a good report at the
end of the shift.

 The handover and communication should be clear,
and complete while transferring patient to the other
wards.
 The misunderstanding should be cleared immediately
about patient if any after handover.

15. Nurse-lab technician
 Laboratories play a significant role in the diagnosis,
monitoring and treatment of disease.
 The communication and interaction between
laboratory and nurse is helpfully for the diagnosis and
treatment intervention.

 The interface between clinical and laboratory health
workers is complex, the two groups may communicate
face-to –face or by request and result forms, phone
calls, text message emails or computerized forms.
