3. Considering The Audience
● Why is considering the audience important? It guides
the intent of their writing and determines how
complex or how simple the piece should be. It helps
them determine what perspective is appropriate to
write from, and it provides them with an
understanding of what is going to either appeal to or
deter their audience.
4. Considering audience in a speech
Before writing your speech, ask this question to yourself – why would the audience care
about my message?
Think about who you will be speaking to. If they are a bunch of senior citizens, talking to
them about the importance of college won’t really be applicable. I know, it sounds really
obvious! But it’s surprising how many times I have seen speakers give great speeches but
are completely out of context for their audience. Every speech needs to be designed to
communicate a particular message to a particular audience. No message can appeal to
all audiences.
5. The Importance Of Knowing Your Audience When Delivering A Speech
● Context
● Knowledge of the audience
● Size
● Age
7. What is language variation
● The term linguistics variation (or simply variation) refers to
regional, social class ,or context. Different in the ways that
particular language is used.
● The way language is changed due to the factors like age,
groups ,situation, region, education is called linguistic
variation.
8. What types of changes
Considering the regional, social class, context ,age, or
education this are what we need to have in mind.
● Pronunciation of word
● Usage of different structures
● Formal and informal variation
● Age of the listeners
● Field specific vocabulary
● Education
10. Use Of Style and Register
There is a terminological distinction between
register and style. Both are associated with a
specific speech situation but whereas register
often refers to the specific vocabulary chosen and
expected in connection with a particular speech
situation, style also includes grammatical
variation.
11. Why is style & register important??
All learners of English need to be sensitive to style
(social role register) so they can a) detect it and b) use it
appropriately. Issues of both register and style are
particularly important for learners of English for Specific
Purposes such as technical English, Business English and
English for Academic Purposes.
