This document discusses concepts related to social media use in B2B companies. It covers collective intelligence where people and computers act more intelligently together than individually. It also discusses participatory economies through new models like crowdsourcing, crowdfunding, and crowdworking. Examples are provided of companies using these approaches, such as crowdsourcing logo design and ideas. Social networks and weak ties are described as important for accessing new information. Specific social media like Twitter, LinkedIn, and their features are outlined.

The document summarizes Europeana's new Data Exchange Agreement which embraces open sharing of metadata on the web. Key points of the new agreement include:
- Dropping restrictions on commercial and non-commercial use as well as attribution and share-alike clauses.
- Adopting a standardized open license (CC0) to simplify sharing of metadata.
- Allowing cultural institutions to selectively share only what they feel comfortable providing to Europeana.
- Highlighting the benefits of open data including increased access, reuse, visibility for cultural institutions and economic opportunities.
The document discusses copyright and its alternatives in the digital age. It analyzes how copyright has evolved over time and needs to adapt to changes brought by digital technologies. Alternatives like Creative Commons and Copyleft licenses provide more flexible options between full copyright and public domain by allowing authors to specify how their works can be used and shared. A new copyright model is needed that balances incentives for creation with access to information in the digital context.
HADOOP based Recommendation Algorithm for Micro-video URLdbpublications
In the recent years usage social media applications pervade in our daily life which makes the Social Networking Sites (SNSs) being dependent on users for content generation. Considering user interest, contents produced by individual SNSs significantly leaves some of the interest based content undiscovered. This led to facilitate features such as “like”, “share”, “hashtags” functions to deliver the content from one platform to another platform. These allowed users to interact with multiple SNSs but limited to receive contents for separate SNSs. Although Open Identity allowed users for single sign-in in multiple platforms, it still remained to target multiple platforms. A Unified Access Model is proposed to internet-based-content modeling where the content for the users could be images or videos or text. Videos of short length termed as “micro-videos” are more popular both for the viewers and also the producers. The work carried out provides a recommendation algorithm for micro-video url, which compared to traditional recommendation algorithms such as content based recommendation, the big data uses parallel computing framework. High performance computing is achieved by using slope one algorithm that uses Mapreduce and Hadoop techniques. Hence, the proposed recommendation system for micro-video url can achieve high performance parallel computing, which can be used by the producers and viewers.

WEB 2.0 FOR FORESIGHT: EXPERIENCES ON AN INNOVATION PLATFORM IN EUROPEAN AGEN...Totti Könnölä
The document summarizes a web 2.0 foresight exercise conducted by the European Commission to gather ideas for future Knowledge and Innovation Communities. It describes the 6 steps taken: 1) defining objectives, 2) analysing conditions, 3) scoping the exercise, 4) choosing methods/tools, 5) running the platform, and 6) following up. The exercise involved an online platform where over 100 ideas were posted and commented on over 7 weeks to inform the European Institute of Innovation and Technology's strategic priorities. Key lessons included the need for clear objectives, piloting tools, and planning for data analysis and platform follow-up.
- Europeana is a digital library that provides single access to European cultural heritage from over 1500 institutions containing over 20 million items.
- Previously, metadata was available under CC-BY-NC licenses, limiting reuse. Europeana is moving to adopt CC0, placing metadata in the public domain with no restrictions on use.
- Workshops identified risks but also significant rewards to open data, including benefits to users, cultural institutions, and businesses. A pilot project released 3.5 million records under CC0 with no issues.
This document provides an overview of open source software and open development. It discusses the history of open source software and definitions of key terms. It also presents two case studies of successful open source projects: TexGen, a textile CAD modeler, and Apache Wookie, a widget server. Both projects benefited from collaboration, publicity, and new partnerships by being open source. The document also briefly covers legal aspects of open source like copyright.

The document discusses how Web 2.0 technologies like blogs, wikis, RSS, and user-generated content have changed how people use and share information online. It argues that services should embrace these new technologies and practices, such as allowing external content to be embedded, trusting users, and developing lightweight and distributed systems rather than trying to compete directly with large commercial providers.
The document discusses how Web 2.0 technologies like blogs, wikis, RSS, and user-generated content have changed how people use and share information online. It argues that services like Intute were pioneers in these approaches before the term "Web 2.0" was coined. Looking ahead, it suggests institutions embrace new models where commercial services host content and applications, and find ways to enhance rather than compete with popular third-party sites.
The document discusses the British Library's strategy to make its metadata more openly available. It receives a vast collection of over 150 million items from the UK and Ireland. It aims to break out of traditional library formats and adopt non-proprietary XML standards used on the wider web. Its initial steps included trials with partners and a free Z39.50 download service. Its current status includes offering RDF/XML metadata under a CC0 license and supplying datasets to other projects. Its next steps are to link its catalogue to external resources and examine collaborative options.

Slide deck from my talk on the topic "Competition Policy and the Internet (social networking services)" delivered at the Competition Commission of India (CCI), October 2016.
This document discusses proposals for managing intellectual property rights for 3D models within the 3D-ICONS project. It identifies the different types of agreements needed, including access agreements between content providers and imaging partners, metadata agreements for content being provided to Europeana, and derivatives agreements for developing 3D models from source data. The document recommends using a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives license as a starting point and aligning the IPR approach with the project's digitization guidelines and Europeana's data requirements. Ensuring standardized and clear IPR management is important for enabling partners and institutions to contribute content while allowing for commercial opportunities.

The Evolution and Impact of OTT Platforms: A Deep Dive into the Future of Ent...ABHILASH DUTTA
This presentation provides a thorough examination of Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms, focusing on their development and substantial influence on the entertainment industry, with a particular emphasis on the Indian market. We begin with an introduction to OTT platforms, defining them as streaming services that deliver content directly over the internet, bypassing traditional broadcast channels. These platforms offer a variety of content, including movies, TV shows, and original productions, allowing users to access content on-demand across multiple devices. The historical context covers the early days of streaming, starting with Netflix's inception in 1997 as a DVD rental service and its transition to streaming in 2007. The presentation also highlights India's television journey, from the launch of Doordarshan in 1959 to the introduction of Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite television in 2000, which expanded viewing choices and set the stage for the rise of OTT platforms like Big Flix, Ditto TV, Sony LIV, Hotstar, and Netflix. The business models of OTT platforms are explored in detail. Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) models, exemplified by Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, offer unlimited content access for a monthly fee. Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD) models, like iTunes and Sky Box Office, allow users to pay for individual pieces of content. Advertising-Based Video on Demand (AVOD) models, such as YouTube and Facebook Watch, provide free content supported by advertisements. Hybrid models combine elements of SVOD and AVOD, offering flexibility to cater to diverse audience preferences.
Content acquisition strategies are also discussed, highlighting the dual approach of purchasing broadcasting rights for existing films and TV shows and investing in original content production. This section underscores the importance of a robust content library in attracting and retaining subscribers. The presentation addresses the challenges faced by OTT platforms, including the unpredictability of content acquisition and audience preferences. It emphasizes the difficulty of balancing content investment with returns in a competitive market, the high costs associated with marketing, and the need for continuous innovation and adaptation to stay relevant.
The impact of OTT platforms on the Bollywood film industry is significant. The competition for viewers has led to a decrease in cinema ticket sales, affecting the revenue of Bollywood films that traditionally rely on theatrical releases. Additionally, OTT platforms now pay less for film rights due to the uncertain success of films in cinemas.
Looking ahead, the future of OTT in India appears promising. The market is expected to grow by 20% annually, reaching a value of ₹1200 billion by the end of the decade. The increasing availability of affordable smartphones and internet access will drive this growth, making OTT platforms a primary source of entertainment for many viewers.
