This document defines and describes common online terminology used on the internet. It defines email as a method of exchanging digital messages over the internet instead of using traditional paper mail. Blogs are websites with entries or posts arranged in reverse chronological order that allow for comments and links. Online chat refers to any communication over the internet in real-time, allowing for text, videos, photos and files to be shared instantly between users. Social bookmarking allows users to tag and save websites for later use, similar to bookmarking pages in a book.

2. Email (E-mail)
 Electronic mail, commonly referred to as email or e-mail, is a
method of exchanging messages in a digital form. Instead of
writing on a paper, email is done by typing on your keyboard.
A lot easier and faster than the traditional snail mail.

3. Blog
 Blog (weblog or web log) is a website consisting of entries or
posts arranged in reverse chronological order. It is typically
interactive for it features comments and links.

4. Online Chat
 Any type of communication over the internet is referred to
online chat. Text are transmitted instantly with the use of
online chat (real-time). However, it is generally short in order
for the receiver to respond quickly.
Facebook, Twitter, and Yahoo Messenger are only some
examples of sites that features online chat.
Nowadays, not only text messages can transmitted with this
type of communication, but videos, mp3s, and photos as
well.

5. Social Bookmarking
 Just like what we do on our books whenever we find
something that is interesting, social bookmarking is a method
of tagging or saving a website to the web for later use.

6. URL
 URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. It is a formatted
text used by web browsers, web clients, and other software
to identify a network resource.

7. Streaming
 If you are tired of spending much time waiting on
downloading movies, this one is for you. Streaming is a form
of multimedia, video or audio content, that is played
immediately over the internet rather than being saved to hard
drive. Unless the streaming is live, the user can pause, fastforward, or rewind the content.

8. Podcast
 Broadcasting + iPod = Podcast! Podcasts are digital media
files (most often audio, but they can be video as well), which
are produced in a series. It is one of audio learning devices
that can be used by students for educational purpose.

9. VoIP
 VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It enables
people use the internet as the transition medium for
telephone calls by sending voice data in packets using IP
(Internet Protocol) rather than the PSTN (Public Switched
Telephone Network).

10. Wiki
 It is an internet application that allows people to add, edit, or
delete contents. It sounds that wikis are not reliable source of
information cause vandalism is common to these sites.
However, those who organize wikis are making way to
maintain and ensure the security and trustworthiness of their
sites.

11. Social Networking
 It is the practice of expanding the number of one’s social
contacts by making connections through individuals. Social
Networking is also used in the field of business.
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Google+ belong
to Top 15 most popular social networking websites
(according to eBizMBA).

12. WWW
 World Wide Web, accessed via internet, is a system of
interlinked hypertext documents. You have to have a web
browser in order to view web pages that may contain text,
images, videos, and other multimedia.

13. HTML
 HTML is an abbreviation that stands for HyperText Markup
Language. It is the language of web pages that web
browsers read.

14. Web Feed
 Also called news feed, it provides users with frequently
updated content. Commonly seen on sites like Yahoo and
Facebook, it gives users fresh updates on news and current
affairs or the latest posts made by “friends.”.
