This document provides tips for avoiding common mistakes when writing about tourism in English. It includes guidance on spelling, place names, grammar, vocabulary, and style. Some key points covered are:
- Spell tourism-related words like "typical", "entertainment", and "famous" correctly
- Use English or original language place names like "Wien" or "Mexico City", not translations
- Be aware of words that look English but aren't, like "lunapark"

30. Some tips
Why say "The hotel is
located near the city
centre"? Honeymooners
don't want to be NEAR
the city centre, they want
to be "in the heart of the
city"! And other tourists
too, especially if a car
park is provided or if they
travel by plane / train /
coach.
31. STYLE IS IMPORTANT 😉
Don't make your itinerary look
like a boring list of activities!
Use questions, involve your
reader! For instance, say: "Did you
know that...?"
Use imperatives: "Find out about
the city's greatest composers in
the amazing Haus der Music!
32. And last but not least: be clever!
Don't write your "scaletta" (plan) in Italian, it's not going to
make a good impression on the "commissario esterno"
who's going to correct your test. It'll show that you were
thinking in Italian and will highlight any "Italianism" in your
text!
33. – Henry Miller
“One's destination is never a place, but a new way of
seeing things”.
