TELECOM MARKET REQUIRES DISRUPTIVE SOLUTIONS:
12. 12
Risks for MNOs during 2016-2017 years:
1. Growth of churn rate because of easy switching to other MNOs.
2. Competitive wars will decrease retail prices on data to $0.2 - $0.5 per GB.
3. Income on roaming services will be dozen times lower.
“Apple and Samsung are in advanced talks to join the rest of
the telecoms industry to launch electronic SIM cards, in a move
could fundamentally change how consumers sign up to mobile
operators.”
Mobile devices will be equipped with a small SIM chip which
allows connecting to any local MNO with one “click”.
«Xiaomi MIUI 7 users will also get to take advantage of a new
virtual SIM service dubbed Mi Roaming, which operates in 36
regions and costs just 0.1 yuan per MB (about $16 per GB) on
average».
Prices on roaming data will be reduced significantly. Our
forecast is about $15 per GB in 2016 and about $5 per GB in
2017
Mobile revenue of European MNOs is going down by 6% - 8%
a year coupled with CAPEX growth because of new
technologies implementation.
THREATS FOR CLASSIC BUSINESS-MODELS OF MNOS:
13. 1. New features for Premium tariff plans:
• One-click switching to another domestic mobile operator in case of
poor mobile signal quality. Affordable bundle (for example, 1 GB per
month) is included in the option.
• Access to mobile data in 100+ countries. Affordable bundle (for
example, 5 GB per year) is included in the option. Case study:
http://www.iliad.fr/en/presse/2015/CP_240315_Eng.pdf
2. Global SIM chip with pre-installed profile of the
Mobile Operator for M2M device vendors.
3. New online sales channel of prepaid tariff plans to
inbound travelers. The travelers will be able to
connect to the Mobile Operator with one “click”.
13
NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE MOBILE OPERATOR:
14. 1. ARPU growth (25 – 50 %) because of shifting to
more expensive tariff plans with new features.
2. Quality improvement because of easy temporary
connection to another operator with better signal.
3. Shifting subscribers from other MNOs and reducing
of churn rate because of significant competitive
advantage.
4. This proposal is profitable for active travelers with
high income. It provides effective sales of value-
added services.
5. Easy access to foreign customers without expenses
on distribution and marketing. It increases revenue of
the Operator.
