16. Transferring credits All credits must be transcribed and approved by the university admissions office. Once credits are placed into our operating system called Banner, http://www.ecu.edu/banner/ we can look at your transcripts and see what can be used for our degrees. Credits that are accepted by the university may not be used in your degree. We can only use what is needed. If you have unused credits and your degree has room for free electives, then we will fill that requirement with credits that have no other use for your degree. Not all degrees have room for free electives. It is important to work with an advisor from ECU when taking classes at another college and planning on transferring to ECU. This will help to make sure you are taking the classes that you need and will cut down on unused courses. CREDITS transfer, but GRADES do not. When you transfer to ECU, you start with a new GPA. Since all of our degrees have a GPA requirement to declare, a GPA must be established in order to move on to upper level courses.
17. Other Considerations It is very common for students to use our majors to prepare for medical programs such as med school, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physicians assistant, chiropractic, dentistry, and veterinarian programs. Please let your advisor know of your intentions to go on to one of these graduate programs so that we can make sure you are in the appropriate prerequisites. If you have a medical program in mind, you can major in anything you want. Most medical programs do not care what your undergraduate degree is. While some of our degrees are an excellent segue into medical programs, they are also viable and terminal degrees that prepare for careers. We ask that you make sure that the degree you choose will fit your career interests in the event that you opt not to go to grad school.
18. Foundations Curriculum All degrees require 42 hours of foundations curriculum. English Composition 6 Natural Sciences 8 (with at least one lab) Math 3 Social Sciences 12 (1 Course from at least 3 disciplines) Humanities and Fine Arts 10 (1 Coursefrom each area) Health and Exercise and Sport Science 3 (1 Course from each area) ______ Total Hours: 42 Foreign Language is not needed for any of degrees and will not be count for humanities.
19. Your “Perfect” Schedule… Please remember that this time you are registering later than current ECU students. You will want to pick up the open sections of courses you need and later, if you want, try to change them when schedules are dropped for non-payment. Please make sure to pay attention to classes that are listed on one line under a requirement on the checklist as you will need only one of these classes to fulfill that requirement. Classes can be addedthrough August 31st. Classes can be dropped without penalty through August 30th. Classes can be dropped with penalty- students geta designated number of late drops and should use them wisely- through October 19th. Schedules will be cancelled for non-payment: August 16, 2010 beginning at 4:00 p.m. If you have problems with Drop/Add: Contact the Advising Center
