2. The Basics of Psychotherapy
Many people are nervous or anxious when they think about psychotherapy. At Philippe Jacquet &
Associates, clients will nd their way to an emotionally safe and comfortable place from their rst
appointment.
There are many di erent therapeutic models in psychotherapy, but all models focus on a relationship
between the professional and the client that allows for deep introspection and the ability to explore very
personal issues.
Talk therapy is designed to provide the client and therapist with the opportunity to go back in time and
explore how negative thoughts developed. Often this starts with dysfunctional families, but it can also be
caused by trauma, the breakup of a relationship or mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Through the psychotherapy, which is typically a weekly appointment for the initial period of treatment,
clients can get a clear understanding of these negative thoughts that are driving the behaviors in the
present. This is true for addictions, challenges with anxiety and depression, relationship disorders, and
problems for children with disabilities, which are negatively impacting the life of a child, teen or adult.
The natural outcome of this enhanced understanding is to become more of a positive, positive coping
strategy. The psychotherapist and the client work together to create a new life.
