Understanding Healthcare Settings The structure of the healthcare system.
Providers, Facilities and Payers Providers are people or organizations that provide health care, which is doctors, nurses ,clinics and agencies. Facilities are places where care is delivered or administered.  Payers are people or organizations paying for healthcare  services. (LTC) Long Term Care is for people who need 24-hour care.
The types of health care Assisted Living is for senior who do not need 24-hour care. Adult daycare is for seniors who’s family members have a job or kids to see about. Acute care is 24-hour skilled care for temporary, but serious, illnesses or injuries. Skilled care is medically necessary care given by skilled nurses and therapist. Sub acutecare is given to people who have had an acute injury or illness or problems resulting from a disease.
The types of health care 2 Outpatient care is usually given for less than 24-hours. It is for people who have had treatments or surgery and need short-term skilled care. Rehabilitation is physical, occupational, or speech therapy to restore or improve an illness or injury. Hospice care is given in facilities or homes for people who have six months or less to live.
HMO’s and PPO’s  (HMO)Health Maintenance Organizationsrequires that you use a particular doctor or group of doctors except in case of emergency.  Doctors under this plan keep cost down by ordering fewer tests but are seeing more patients. (PPO)Preferred Provider Organizations is a network of providers that are contracted to provide health services to a group of people.  Employees are given incentives and employers are given reduces rate for services.
