- 1. Wireframe seriously. With an organic idea such as CMS, the best designs begin as organic elements: pencil, colored pencils, paper. Take time with your wireframes and work them into solid designs, moving into photoshop. Do not start digital, or your designs will have that cold, lifeless look of something that only existed digitally. COASTM I D D L E S C H O O L Responsive Your final design must be responsive, and work on anything from a phone to a pc. New Logo There is a new logo for the website (found in course documents) that must be incorporated in the design. Color Scheme All designs must utilize the colors found in the CMS color scheme (course documents) Creativity The key is to find a creative solution. Avoid Cliché and use original ideas. CREATIVE BRIEF: Overall, the state of the CMS website is in chaos. It’s in desperate need of revision and repair. It is your job as the designer to dig through the missing/odd links and make something coherent out of this website for the client. As a whole, this design is a mess. The code is non-semantic, the css is found in the <head> and it is impossible to update. Somewhere along the line the information on the calendar went south, and it is just a string of characters. CMS is looking for an updated, fresh website to be current and responsive. They’ve updated the logo and color choices. These are two required elements for your designs. The creative part is up to you: what links stay, what go, how the page flows, how the whole site is organized. The content found on the current site can be used as-is, or can be cut down/ modified/removed to fit with your new vision for the site. (hint: designs that use everything “as- is” probably won’t score well) This is a very solid example of what you may face with a client: a very chaotic site that needs major revision. It’s up to you to own your work and put something together that makes a statement. Don’t be afraid to hurt someone’s feelings about what they have...they wouldn’t be looking to update if they didn’t feel that it was done well in the first place. You must use external style sheets, responsive design, the logo and color set provided by CMS. Anything else is open for revision in this design.
