A clutch transmits rotary motion from one shaft to another. A common manual clutch has three basic units: a driving unit attached to the engine that rotates with it, a driven unit attached to the transmission that rotates it, and an operating unit that engages and disengages the driving and driven members to connect or disconnect the transmission from the engine.
