Editor's Notes
Hello, I’m David Furmage from the Serious Games Institute in the UK I’m leading Cluster 2020 . I was a business owner in the sector , so I know first hand the pain and joys of employing staff, raising finance, having your house on the line and working very long hours.
Our vision is to help creative businesses grow in a sustainable and efficient way. We’ll achieve this by running hands-on practical trials and tests , optimizing working spaces and improving business support services for the sector. The results will be fed into an overall Cluster Excellence Blueprint, Which will be made available to all cluster organisations. Our aim is to make creative clusters and their businesses… More Informed . More Efficient and More Expert
More Informed by having a personalised and fine-grained understanding of each business in the cluster. increasing our effectiveness in cluster support. We’ll develop a ‘smart Profiling tool’ and ‘dashboard’ that will help cluster staff identify a personalised mix of services tailored to individual business needs and aspirations.
More Informed by Understanding industrial, technology & research trends We’ll run the brilliant CReATE programme for regional analysis and foresight, identifying emerging opportunities. More Informed in using data for competitive advantage. We’ll run open data events for creative businesses, giving them an insight into new markets and product areas. The EU predicts the European economy can be boosted by €40billion per year just through maximizing the use of data, so we want to do our part in achieving this goal!
More Efficient and effective in the way we organise spaces and run services for incubation, start-up support and coworking. Gate Garching, one of our core partners from Munich, are launching their Digital Creative Hub later this year. This is an example of the way Cluster 2020 will test new ideas in real situations to help real businesses! More Efficient and effective by producing a guide to productivity and business tools that are ‘ Creative Industry Friendly’ Many tools, such as business metrics based on a balanced scorecard, don’t work too well for the sector. We’ll identify the most effective tools to help cluster managers and their businesses succeed.
More Expert in understanding key emerging issues for businesses. We’ll build a library of meta-tagged video clips with experts covering key topics and emerging areas for the sector. More Expert in reaching industries & business sectors that need creative products and services. Our partners have day-to-day connections with a very wide range of networks, clusters and sectors both in Europe and around the world.
We see The Big Picture at Cluster 2020. We know that our cluster measures must connect seamlessly with business support services in each partner region As well as the other ECIA projects, The European Creative Cluster Lab ECCL and the concrete actions around finance and voucher schemes. We will also help cluster organisations make their case for local funding , by providing them with evidence and arguments.
Our Expected IMPACTS include: Reaching 7000 businesses Directly benefiting 2000, Working in detail with 250 And doing all this across at least 11 clusters I addition we’ll publish our findings and guides and contribute to the ECIA’s blueprint to help all creative clusters Our partners will adopt the ideas and services for their on-going support programmes after the project has finished.
Members of the Consortium include: The Serious Games Institute , Coventry University Enterprises, West Midlands, UK. With expertise in serious games, internationalization, trade missions. Offices and activities in the Far East and beyond. Active in creative sector support and clustering. We are leading this project. European Business & Innovation Centre Network , Brussels. EBN is a leading non-governmental pan-European network bringing together 200+ Business and Innovation Centres or BIC’s. They have extensive international cross-industry connections to innovation support stakeholders Gate Garching from Munich, Germany. Technology, Innovation and co-working centres. They are currently launching a new Creative business centre, which we mentioned earlier. They run business clusters and support. Creative England. Is an England-wide (excluding London), Government funded national organization, tasked to support the creative industries. They have an extensive cluster membership and reach. and Black Swan from Provence in France. Are a business innovation and co-working centre with wide connections into technology related clusters such as aerospace.
In summary. Cluster 2020 is practical hands-on stuff With a blueprint for success . Gives a Fine grained understanding And personal approach to business needs make them more INFORMED with CreATE analysis & data insight More Efficient with space & service optimization and a guide to productivity tools More Expert through video content and making connections to new markets Well Connected, with wider regional support And the other ECIA projects
