This document provides guidelines for the evaluation, classification, and management of chronic kidney disease (CKD). It defines CKD and establishes stages of CKD based on cause, level of kidney function as measured by glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and presence or absence of kidney damage as indicated by proteinuria or other markers. Guidelines are provided for estimating GFR from serum creatinine and assessing proteinuria using urine tests. Risk factors for CKD progression and cardiovascular complications are reviewed. Recommendations are made for monitoring CKD stages and managing associated conditions.
