Several individuals are nominated for the Respect Task for being positive, considerate, respectful to colleagues, and for building good relationships across the department. Others nominated for the Professional Task worked incredibly hard to meet tight deadlines, provide excellent work, and demonstrate professionalism even under pressure. BDUK Superfast and Commercial teams completed broadband contracts by a non-negotiable deadline through tireless work including late nights and weekends.

1. Nominations for Respect Task
Stephanie Cooke is always positive,
considerate and respectful of everyone, and a fantastic morale boost,
whether its 9am on a Monday or 5pm on a Friday. The biggest credit to
Steph is when you walk round DCMS with her, the number of people who
stop her for a chat or to thank her for something.
David Hughes always enquiries about
the welfare of his colleagues, and is very good at getting the best out of
people. He always adopts the right tone (whatever the situation is/whoever
the person is).
2. HR Team continue to
act with integrity and respect to colleagues in the department, whilst
continuing to strive to improve the way they work in a way that celebrates
the diverse nature of the workforce.
Vita Hylton makes a special effort to listen and
communicate the best approach to any circumstance or issue, and is a very
kind and considerate person.
3. Joe Lawrence has gone out of his way to build
excellent personal relationships. He has something positive to say about
everyone and everything. Everyone has commented on his sunny
disposition, which creates such a pleasant working environment.
David Machin is a calming influence
even at the most pressurised moments. He is always helpful, providing
important advice on key issues, and has rapidly become an integral part of
the team.
4. Ashley Mangtani treats everyone with
cheerfulness and courtesy, and is rarely without a smile in response to a
request. He got on with the IT transition with no complaint, cheerfulness,
courtesy and a willingness to pitch in.
Michael Parsons takes the time to share
his extensive knowledge of tourism policy, builds team morale with his
sense of humour and realism. He is particularly good at challenging views
that he doesn’t agree with, with clear evidence, logic and respect for
others views.
5. Sian Sinnot is calmness personified, coping so
well with everything thrown at her in a professional and courteous manner.
She us fun to work with, always optimistic, and always willing to help
colleagues when they are under pressure.
Nominations for Professional Task
Gwion Aprhobat works incredibly hard
processing mountains of staff data. He is always professional and hard
working, meeting deadlines and ensuring accuracy in his work. He is also
an excel expert, regularly giving up time to show others.
6. BDUK Superfast and Commercial did incredible work to complete 44
Phase 2 Superfast Broadband contracts and 8 additional contracts meeting
a tight (and indeed non-negotiable) deadline of the 30 June. The whole
team work tirelessly, often late into the night and weekends.
Philip Bland works tirelessly to provide the best possible service to the
Minister, while still maintaining a cheery disposition. He is calm even in
very stressful situations and works collaboratively with policy to get the job
done.
Richard Boorman holds himself fully
accountable for the quality of his work, shows excellent judgement even
for difficult decisions, and rarely shows any visible signs of stress. In
addition he is an excellent operational researcher, producing very high
quality analysis.
7. David Evans provides consistently clear,
concise, high-quality work. He knows his portfolio inside-out and can
always answer on the spot questions, has always delivered on time and
never pushed back on challenging deadlines. He manages his time
extremely well so is never unable to deliver.
Colin Gibson has been dealing with a
Judicial Review submitted against DCMS, bringing his usual calm
dedication, sound judgment and expert knowledge to provide accurate
and professional advice. He demonstrated exceptional attention to detail
and hours of painstaking research.
8. Olivia Jensen has made Special Advisers’
start much easier by demonstrating her exceptional organisational skills,
professionalism, effectiveness and efficiency, friendliness and making sure
that diaries are properly managed and all briefings and other papers
always ready as necessary.
David Machin deals with an
extraordinary workload, but he has taken everything thrown at him in his
stride and dealt with a myriad of complicated issues in such a professional
and commanding manner.
9. Ashley Mangtani has consistently
demonstrated a willingness to get things done. He has ensured everyone
has the equipment they need to do the job, managed the moving back
and forth to TCR, and helped everyone get ready for the big move.
Sophie Marment has taken the lead on
the funding of the BBC – one of the most complicated issues for the
Charter Review. She has built a high performing team to tackle the
challenges that Charter Review will bring. She has done all this at the same
time as preparing for and taking her professional qualifications in her
spare time.
10. Partial Not Spots and Code team achieved a key priority of the SoS
against almost insurmountable challenges. The team showed huge
commitment and innovation and worked incredibly hard (including on a
long series of weekends) and flexibly across team boundaries.
Natalie Penge is passionate about doing
a good job and constantly strives to make sure that she is working with all
our stakeholders as effectively as possible. Throughout a hectic period, she
kept a level head, and was professional to the last – you would never have
known that she was new to the job.
Sarah Riebland has consistently delivered
high quality analysis at pace with limited support, including developing
11. from scratch a model of the potential coverage and costs of wireless
technologies in delivering superfast broadband.
Matt Rogers led the election planning
process with great professionalism and excellence. He maintained
tremendous calm, managed to give feedback with tact while maintaining
quality control and pulled everything together so we were ready for all
eventualities.
12. Ankit Shah/Penelope Leith have put in a huge effort to make sure that
DCMS can lay its Group accounts, unqualified, before Parliament’s summer
recess for the first time. They have worked very long hours including at
weekends over a long period.
Keira Shaw is the consummate
professional and led her libraries team over the course of last year to lead
not one but three four major pieces of work. . In addition, she led her
team to deliver a number of statutory libraries’ case, and is a motivating
and effective team leader.
Paul Walker worked tirelessly and continuously
in his roles with IT and Estates, ensuring that desk moves have been as
efficient as possible, and that people have had individual assistance and
13. support with IT. His recent selfless hard work to create new ministerial
offices is further example of this.
