The circulatory system transports blood throughout the body via the heart, arteries and veins. Oxygen-rich blood is pumped from the heart into arteries and delivers oxygen and nutrients to cells before returning to the heart as deoxygenated blood via veins to be re-oxygenated in the lungs.
The digestive system breaks down food into nutrients that can be absorbed and used by the body for energy, growth and repair. Food moves through the esophagus, stomach and small intestine where it is broken down and absorbed before waste is eliminated.
The immune system defends the body against infections and disease through physical barriers, inflammation responses, and immune cells and antibodies that fight pathogens.
